A copy of the Chinese Yu Garden and Tea House of Shanghai in Hamburg (Hamburg is twinned with Shanghai, and the city of Shanghai donated the garden). This is much more than a symbolic gesture. It is a real transplant. Think of the Hindu temples recently inaugurated in the UK: in each case soil from holy ground in India was inserted into the temples' foundations. The world we live in is increasingly relying on the creativity and functioning of such transplants.

Happy Monday dear friends, here's my take for Macro Mondays. Two broken shells from Portland shores came together to make a complete one, with Leading Lines! Enyoj your week and thank you for your visit :)

The transplanted flower really took off.

Thank you all for your visit comments and faves much appreciated!

Have a lovely Sunday.

With Carload taking over the MDDE ops, scenes like this no longer happen as they have taken the RS3Ms out of service for a pair of SW1500s... Here's the 1203 working Solo Cup in Federalsburg, MD a couple summers back. 8/10/18

It’s time to harvest some carrots and do a little transplanting.

Interesting Wild Turkey Facts

‧ The Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) and the Muscovy Duck are the only two domesticated birds native to the New World.

‧ In the early 1500s, European explorers brought home Wild Turkeys from Mexico, where native people had domesticated the birds centuries earlier. Turkeys quickly became popular on European menus thanks to their large size and rich taste from their diet of wild nuts. Later, when English colonists settled on the Atlantic Coast, they brought domesticated turkeys with them.

‧ The English name of the bird may be a holdover from early shipping routes that passed through the country of Turkey on their way to delivering the birds to European markets.

‧ Male Wild Turkeys provide no parental care. Newly hatched chicks follow the female, who feeds them for a few days until they learn to find food on their own. As the chicks grow, they band into groups composed of several hens and their broods. Winter groups sometimes exceed 200 turkeys.

‧ As Wild Turkey numbers dwindled through the early twentieth century, people began to look for ways to reintroduce this valuable game bird. Initially they tried releasing farm turkeys into the wild but those birds didn’t survive. In the 1940s, people began catching wild birds and transporting them to other areas. Such transplantations allowed Wild Turkeys to spread to all of the lower 48 states (plus Hawaii) and parts of southern Canada.

‧ Because of their large size, compact bones, and long-standing popularity as a dinner item, turkeys have a better known fossil record than most other birds. Turkey fossils have been unearthed across the southern United States and Mexico, some of them dating from thousands of years ago.

‧ When they need to, Turkeys can swim by tucking their wings in close, spreading their tails, and kicking.

Another hurritage throwback, because I can. NS 1071, the Central Railroad of New Jersey unit, pulls out of Markham Yard for headroom, alongside CN's Chicago Sub and Metra's Electric District on a flat-overcast winter day. The brickwork here belongs to the long-closed Homewood Tower.

When he stepped away for a minute to get something he needed I couldn't resist climbing up on a chair to get a shot of his set up.

Scott picked up two jade bonsai trees while we were in the market yesterday and set to work transplanting them into proper containers today.

Of course, I couldn't resist using this as my shot of the day. It has been a few months since I showed off his first bonsai transplant session so I figured a second showing was due.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

I transplanted (repotted) my tomato seedlings this morning. I've got some Krim, Roma, Sungold cherry, and a yellow/purple cherry going. I learned some lessons from last year, where they got too leggy and were hard to plant outside. Right now, these are just settling in.

This year, I started the seedlings a bit later, planting the seeds a bit deeper, and doing this transplant indoors. The seedlings were already 8-10cm tall, so I buried a good portion of the stems in to help with root development. Last year, I only transplanted them once, when they went outside, and I think the next time these get transplanted it will be outdoors in another few weeks. I used some Miracle Grow potting mix with moisture retention (blue bag), which has a tiny bit of fertilizer, so I'll feed these guys again in another week or two. I'll probably keep 8 plants, and give the rest of them out.

Some plants just don't know how to behave themselves.
