This photograph was taken at dawn four days ago at Lower Seletar Reservoir looking towards Orchid Country Club (with lights on the left) and Heritage Bridge (on the right).
While awaiting for sunrise, mosquito fogging in the reservoir was seen carried out using a small boat. This long exposure photograph captured the light trails (as seen in lower portion of the photograph) and the trajectory of the fog. The mirror-like surface of the reservoir provided captivating reflections of the lights at the golf course, fog formations and the Bridge.
Best wishes for a wonderful weekend.
Arriving on the scene around 300 million years ago, dragonflies are one of the first insects to inhabit this planet. They've had a long time to perfect the art of flying, hunting and just being amazing.
Dragonflies are flat out terrifying if you're a gnat, mosquito or other small bug. They don't simply chase down their prey. Instead, they snag them from the air with calculated aerial ambushes. Dragonflies can judge the speed and trajectory of a prey target and adjust their flight to intercept prey. They're so skilled that they have up to a 95 percent success rate when hunting.

At this time of the year, all the milkweed seed pods in the yard have started to open. I try to get a couple of shots outside but it's been overcast most mornings so I decided to to bring one inside for a closer look.
Given my current trajectory, I would have loved to shoot this with some kind of a super focus stack but that was no to be. Too much going on to get a decent stack (at least at my current level of ability) so I did a quick pivot and went with a single frame at f/16. I was pleased with the result.
Nikon 55mm f/2.8 NIKKOR Micro, Single shot at f/16.
BTW: Doesn't the surface of the seed pod look like some alien land?

El poblet medieval de Cantobre fou la darrera etapa del nostre viatge per el Avairon i el seu entorn. Forma talment una fortalessa natural, amb cingles gairebé encerclant-lo.

The medieval fortified village of Cantobre, located in the Dourbie valley, is a natural fortress. In fact it barely needs walls, as has cliffs all arround.
It was the last visit in our 2021 trip arround the Aveyron and it's surroundings.

(Note: This text is an allegory inspired by a very current scientific theory, summarized in the link below)
Life seemed to rise to the assault of the Great Nothing,
This dead mountain which reigned in the center of Terra Nova, a high plateau of Poësia ...
Thousands of trees and plants seeking to colonize every fold of this non-living space like so many fighters on a battlefield.
________
This conquering view of life as we know it is uniquely human. It feeds on both popular culture (science fiction) and Science itself, legitimately curious about finding signs of life beyond Earth (ETI). We want to believe it! But for now…
_______
There, the Great Nothing resisted the expansion of vegetation, its hostile environment being unfit for life as we know it ... except, perhaps, in its simplest expressions, of the order of the molecule …
Standing on the promontory that allowed me to observe the present forces, the questions rush in my head: Would Nothingness be the dominant state of the Universe? Could organic life - moreover, its intelligent forms - be an exceptional situation, a highly improbable event on the slow trajectory of evolution? And the essential question I dreaded the answer to: Are we alone in the Universe?
If this hypothesis were to find its way through time, a pressing, existential reality would then impose itself on all of Darwin's children: life on Earth, in all its forms, is an extremely precious heritage we have, and us, the intelligent species, have the immense responsibility to preserve it.

During my last visit to Vancouver, I woke up very early one morning to capture some cityscapes of the metropolis from the eastern suburbs. While photographing, I noticed the trajectory of the moon's descent as night slowly yielded to day.
Because I could foresee where the moon was going to set, I raced with anticipation from where I was (in Burnaby) to North Vancouver just in time to witness one of the most incredible moonsets that I've ever seen. It was the full moon steadily sinking below the skies above the Vancouver skyline that was still very much in a state of slumber that morning.
Alas, the city was tranquil and calm. All one could hear was the sound of the breeze above Coal Harbour and a few birds chirping to each other in greeting.
As the moon descended, its glow illuminated the clouds around its sphere, creating a fiery glow and emblazoned haze that was quite mesmerizing to the point that it felt mysteriously mythological -- like a moment one would only read about in fables. That's what it felt like for me.
Fortunately, I captured this image to ensure that I didn't imagine the moment.

The very bobbly dunes backing Warkworth beach, with Coquet Island forming the backdrop.
The day had started beautifully but was heading on a downwards trajectory and, if I remember rightly, it was raining by the time I got home about an hour later.
ps A shot from the earlier, nicer part of the morning is at the start of the comments below.
On my last adventure out to Trona Pinnacles I spent some time with my cousin capturing nightscapes of the different formations in the main circle of the park. This was the last formation shot during the night and we were being harassed by a small Fennec Fox. He seemed very curious about our invasion into his territory and made several attempts to sneak up on us. One attempt after another he made, moving closer and closer which I thought was entertaining and charming up to a point and I kept chasing him off with a 2 million candle power torch light. Then after 10 or 12 approaches I became somewhat annoyed and finally became alarmed when after a long absence found him 5 foot behind me crouched in an attack type stance. Now I was very concerned and chased him off into the darkness once again, followed by a small, smooth palm sized rock which I hurled into the black of night in his general direction which was intended as a warning. But what followed was a resounding yelp. I didn't intend to strike the curious little fellow and my throw was aimed quite a bit to the right of his last seen trajectory but apparently he veered in the same direction as my release, I looked at my cousin in concern and after we looked at each other for a moment, burst into laughter. I would never intentionally hurt an animal especially one as cute as he, but it was quite comical that he had ventured right into the path of the incoming stone. We did see him once more as we drove away at 3:00am to head back to our camp. I was very relieved to know that he had not been seriously injured. :)

The Mists of Avalon is a 1983 historical fantasy novel by American writer Marion Zimmer Bradley, in which the author relates the Arthurian legends from the perspective of the female characters. The book follows the trajectory of Morgaine (Morgan le Fay), a priestess fighting to save her Celtic religion in a country where Christianity threatens to destroy the pagan way of life. The epic is focused on the lives of Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar (Guinevere), Viviane, Morgause, Igraine and other women of the Arthurian legend.

The Rhaetian Railway is an exemplary railway development for the disenclavement of the Central Alps at the beginning of the 20th century. The Rhaetian Railway has been part of the Swiss Canton of Graubünden since 1889. It is now impossible to imagine this region, one of the most beautiful in Switzerland, without its world-famous railway.
This image was taken at the end of the day when the train emerges from the last bend before Lagalp in Val Bernina. It is interesting to note that these large bends are onlly designed to reduce the slope of the trajectory.
Weather in these high alpine valleys can be extremely harsh during the Winter season when high winds and snow sweep the area.
This is the Firehole River, pass through here, in the moments of the colors of the fall of the sun.
The Firehole River is located in northwestern Wyoming, and is one of the two major tributaries of the Madison River. It flows north approximately 21 miles (34 km) from its source in Madison Lake on the Continental Divide to join the Gibbon River at Madison Junction in Yellowstone National Park. It is part of the Missouri River system.
This river has many sinuosities in its trajectory, so it makes it possible for you to look for a good position at the time of the fall of the Sun, but this in my case was casual, I want this to be for you to understand the colors and light of the moment.

The lawyer Darcy Paz de Pádua, one of the main builders of the FEAC Foundation, the main social organization in Campinas, passed away this Friday, July 22, 2022, and which still represents a unique model in its area of operation in Brazil. Dr. Darcy, as he is known, was present in the main moments of FEAC's trajectory, since its foundation, on April 14, 1964. I had the honor to record this trajectory in the two books I wrote about the institution: “Biografia de a social pact: 40 years of integration, support and solidarity” (Editora Átomo, 2005) and “FEAC 50 years: A history of innovation and solidarity” (Arte Escrita, 2014). And also in “Vocação Solidária” (1998) and “Campinas, Vocação Solidária” (2004), both published by Fundação Educar DPaschoal, a historical partner of FEAC in multiple initiatives.
For the organization, Dr. Darcy represented Brazil at the 15th UNESCO International Conference on Voluntary Service, which would take place soon after, between February 20 and 27, 1966, in the city of Rosario, Argentina. FEAC was structuring the Volunteer Training Center (Cetrevo) and was the first Brazilian organization to join UNESCO's International Volunteer Service.
He was very fond of history, which he respected. He donated his magnificent collection on the 1932 Revolution to Unicamp.
Dr.Darcy was very humorous. Always with a quick “balcony”, according to the occasion. And in love with dear Lucinha, who died a few years ago. Now they are together in eternity. He would have turned 100 on October 16th. But it seems that his life lasted centuries, whatever.
He is always attentive and considerate. With a great vision of the future. His physical presence will be sorely missed by the “FEAC family”, but his ideas, his way of being, are enduring. He liked to say that the important thing is the works, not the empty words. Dr.Darcy leaves an immense legacy of works and for works, as he liked to refer to organizations that get their hands dirty, make change happen.

DESCRIPTION:
The picture show the comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan Atlas.
Despite the presence of a slight haze and some low clouds, the image clearly shows the comet with its long tail and the anti-tail, characteristic of this comet.
While the tail is formed by light gases ejected from the comet and pushed by the solar wind in the opposite direction to the sun, the anti-tail is formed by heavier debris that the comet leaves along the way. They therefore trace the comet’s trajectory and, under particular perspective conditions, appear as a straight trail in the direction of the sun.
The photo was taken from the eastern side of Mount Etna, at about 1800m altitude.

Jasper was explaining to me how he uses Fourier Transforms to figure out the trajectory of his ball and understand the periodicity of the ball bouncing and blah, blah blah. He even wrote it all out on the whiteboard for me, but I'm still a little hazy on the whole thing. Its humbling to have such a smarty pants for a dog.
I found this awesome web earlier in the day, and later watched out a window as my husband mowed. I saw that his trajectory would take him right into the spider's work of art! But also saw his ball cap would protect him. Maybe. Then simultaneously a low-hanging branch snatched off the cap, he walked face-first into the web, did the crazy spider dance...and looked up to see me dying of laughter in the window. Busted!
I spent a couple days in northern Minnesota and was fortunate to see some northern lights.
I was kind of surprised I wasn't able to see the colors with my eye until I checked the display on my camera.
Per Wiki...Auroras are the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by solar wind. These disturbances are sometimes strong enough to alter the trajectories of charged particles in both solar wind and magnetospheric plasma. These particles, mainly electrons and protons, precipitate into the upper atmosphere (thermosphere/exosphere).
The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emit light of varying color and complexity. The form of the aurora, occurring within bands around both polar regions, is also dependent on the amount of acceleration imparted to the precipitating particles. Precipitating protons generally produce optical emissions as incident hydrogen atoms after gaining electrons from the atmosphere. Proton auroras are usually observed at lower latitudes.

2nd century AD, marble, Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki. Some say that this is a depiction of Zeus. It could be. Senior gods deserve a serious beard. Christian iconography of Jesus followed exactly this trajectory. Initially, Jesus was shown to be a young, beardless man. Once Christianity had become the state religion, he suddenly grew older - and a large beard. Religious fanatics often prop up their "seriousness" by having an imposing beard. They like to think they act in the name of God. But let me tell you, it is not the beard that does it. Leica M8, Voigtlaender

MISSION TERRE

MISSION EARTH
North Pole, December 21 3218
"This December 21, 3218, a first group of humans whose ancestors fled the land that had become uninhabitable - this sad period, know in history as the Great Migration - lands on these desolate and unrecognizable lands of the northern hemisphere. Their mission: to seek answers to the following questions: is the evolution of the Earth irreversible? Can life ever prosper again? Under what conditions?
While early clues give little hope to explorers, a member of the expedition - a woman best known for her poetry - made an unexpected discovery that could, once again, change the trajectory of the human race. "

Note: I want to illustrate this synopsis of sci-fi film, but I am among those who hope that the Mission Earth will never take place. It is up to us to ensure that the brief history of the future evoked by this image will forever be locked in the world of science fiction!

View of the mansion at Nymans Gardens, West Sussex. You will have noticed that the frontal part of the building has been preserved as a ruin and that only one of the side wings is still occupied. This is a result of a fire in 1947, a calamity the owners, the Messel family, never really recovered from. In the early 1950s, the whole estate was acquired by the National Trust. The point of the estate had always been to create an alternative world of beauty - far away from noisy cities and dirty industries. The building may look medieval, but it was built in the first half of the 19th century. When the Messels (stock brokers from Germany who had made their fortune in Britain and, later, liaised with nobility) purchased the place in the 1890s, they followed this trajectory and turned the gardens into a horticultural paradise. Consequently, when the National Trust preserves the estate, it also preserves a dream.
Lost in the coldness of outer space,
shooting across the galaxy,
I feel a great pull.
My trajectory suddenly changed.
This undeniable force caught me.
It caught me and pulled me ever closer.
So close, I feel the warmth of your atmosphere.
Now, I slowly orbit around you and travel wherever you go.
Together in the vastness, we are no longer alone.
I am caught in the gravity of you.

An aurora (pl. aurorae or auroras), also commonly known as the northern lights (aurora borealis) or southern lights (aurora australis), is a natural light display in Earth's sky, predominantly seen in high-latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic). Auroras display dynamic patterns of brilliant lights that appear as curtains, rays, spirals, or dynamic flickers covering the entire sky.
Auroras are the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by the solar wind. Major disturbances result from enhancements in the speed of the solar wind from coronal holes and coronal mass ejections. These disturbances alter the trajectories of charged particles in the magnetospheric plasma. These particles, mainly electrons and protons, precipitate into the upper atmosphere (thermosphere/exosphere). The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emit light of varying colour and complexity. The form of the aurora, occurring within bands around both polar regions, is also dependent on the amount of acceleration imparted to the precipitating particles.
Most of the planets in the Solar System, some natural satellites, brown dwarfs, and even comets also host auroras.

Vladimir I Sviatoslavich or Volodymyr I Sviatoslavych. (958 – 15 July 1015), nicknamed the Great, was Prince of Novgorod, Grand Prince of Kiev, and ruler of Kievan Rus' from 980 to 1015.
Vladimir's father was Prince Sviatoslav I of Kiev of the Rurik dynasty. After the death of his father in 972, Vladimir, who was then prince of Novgorod, was forced to flee to Scandinavia in 976 after his brother Yaropolk murdered his other brother Oleg of Drelinia, becoming the sole ruler of Rus'. In Sweden, with the help of his relative Ladejarl Håkon Sigurdsson, ruler of Norway, he assembled a Varangian army and reconquered Novgorod from Yaropolk. By 980, Vladimir had consolidated the Rus' realm to the Baltic Sea and had solidified the frontiers against incursions of Bulgarians, Baltic tribes and Eastern nomads. Originally a follower of Slavic paganism, Vladimir converted to Christianity in 988 and Christianized the Kievan Rus'. Due to this act, which fundamentally altered the historical trajectory of the Rus' and led to his declaration as a saint in both Western Christianity and the Eastern Orthodox Church, Vladimir is thus also known as Saint Vladimir. Some scholars prefer Volodimer I or Volodimir I.

Bear Den Mountain, Adirondacks
I long for the days when I had a constitution of steel, driven to climb all of the peaks arrayed before me, and all the other compass points I could turn and look out at from this vantage point. This place has long been a favorite spot to break out my gear and look for compositions, whether as part of the longer hike south of me, or as a destination for a shorter outing. This morning the sun has gained on me, low in winter trajectory and casting its shadows as it clears the ridges behind me. Its burn highlights the iron oxide in an erratic deposited here in the pleistocene, as the massive ice sheets sculpted the Adirondack dome. North Country lore is sprinkled with iron. Furnaces and ore pits still stand in parts of the landscape, a history hinted at in my reddish-tinged granite boulder, posing on the verge of the Ausable Valley. I’ve been fortunate to have explored so much of America’s wildness; this country stands as hard as any landscape I’ve been in, and it hardens those willing to return after being scathed. Switchbacks were mostly unheard of up here, so topping these mountains is as much a matter of iron will as physical prowess. I have a long and chequered history of loves, romantic and spiritual, each accusing the other of time spent devoting my fidelities elsewhere. My regrets haunt me still. Rock will wear smooth, the forests will darken, iron will rust, and youth fades. The heart never concedes.
