On the night of June 3rd, a CP trimmer job shoved it's train into a pair of UP SD40Ns that came in on Y-PRCP earlier in the day. Nobody was injured in the wreck but the two UP units were severely damaged, with one being a total loss.
Slowly picking up its last train from Sheffield Park, Crompton Type 3 33103 'Swordfish' passes into the Western Hemisphere with the last round-trip train of the Bluebell Railway's first Diesel Gala on 21st March 2014... an annual event that has gone from strength to strength ever since.
The Badulla to Kandy mixed train waits at Haputale to meet the Podi Meinike express train. If you ever get the chance to visit Sri Lanka make sure to ride this train, its an amazing throwback to times I was way to young to experience elsewhere. The train even has an observation car which costs all of 5 USD to ride in all 170 km!
Running under number 2601, this is the early morning fast service from Sofia to Varna via Gorna Oryahovitsa. Here caught shortly after Mezdra hauled by locomotive 44 078.

Seen from 9th Street in East St. Louis, IL, Savatrans LLC (SVTX) ES44AC #1982 leads NS train 430 past closed Pennsy "VI" Tower, known in later years on Conrail, and while being operated by the Gateway Eastern, i.e. KCS, as Willows Tower.
The 430 completed loading the day prior at the "Shay" mine near Macoupin, IL and is on its way down the V&C Belt. It will connect with the NS Southern-West District at the west end of Coapman siding. From there, it will take NS to a connection with the Evansville Western (EVWR) just east of Mt Vernon, then down to the AB Brown power plant near Evansville, IN.
This power set, consisting of SVTX 1982, 1986 and 1912, painted and numbered to commemorate Penn State's football championships, made only two runs on NS before returning to its traditional route on EVWR.
Well actually a very high spec mock-up of one of the new Stadler Class 777 EMU's being built for the Liverpool City Region suburban rail network Merseyrail. Seen here in Birkenhead at the Pacific Road Building for public inspection and comment. It will soon on on display at Liverpool Lime Street Station.
