As the sun was setting you could watch the line of shadow as it consumed the valley below and slowly crept up the mountain face. Just the very tops of the mountains on the left are still within sunlight (well, that and where I was standing on top of this huge rock). Relatively uncooperative sky for a sunset, but at least the lighting was neat to watch.

Taken at Lindy Point, a gorgeous overlook right next to Blackwater Falls State Park.

Originally built in the 1500s and then restored by Sir Edwin Lutyens around the turn of the twentiety century to make a family summer home.

On our way out to the Citadel ruins, we overlooked the floor of this wonderful canyon where ruins are visible in the lower right. Sorry that I can't put a super resolution image here so that you can see it better, but if you click on the image you can zoom in a little bit.

In the backyard of the Queen's summer residence, we lounged around the delightful ruins of the medieval abbey. Opposite view from this shot: www.flickr.com/photos/trailpixie/20051294210/in/dateposte...

See that cool narrow bridge out to the Citadel, that is where we hiked. The cliff dwellings are on the other side of the citadel rock.

Cleared a few branches with this fella today, for your riding pleasure and mine. Also good for cutting pickled eggs!

We found an improbable tadpole shrimp in one of these puddles. Apparently their entire lifecycle completes in four months, and they leave eggs waiting for another pond to form. Closeup here: www.flickr.com/photos/trailpixie/17185836298/
