Unlike the trailer hitches that mount on the side of the bike, this one can make sharp turns either direction.
This Beetle may or may not have been entered in the Terryville show for judging. It probably was. But what's significant is that it actually has a trailer hitched to it. You'd think a VE would be too much of a weakling to carry a trailer, even a small one. But there it is, a highway caboose on the back of this coincidentally red Bug. :-)
This Beetle, in addition to having chrome fender flares and headlight eyelids, also has large, bulky taillights and the VW logo on the trunk lid. That would identify it as a '73 or '74 Beetle.
The 1971 Beetle had a 1.6-liter engine rated at 60 horsepower. That engine, which remained the standard powerplant for the Beetle in America to the end, would have its horsepower rating downgraded to 46 the following year (1972) by Society of American Engineers (SAE) standards, and subsequent Bugs would retain that rating. 46, 60 . . . that seems good enough for a Beetle to carry a trailer like this.

This riding season is officially over because of this. Trailering back home to the garage after being stranded on the street for four weeks.
With a small car you don't only have a problem with carrying kayaks but also with all the gear that goes with the boats. The trailer includes a large locking and weather tight storage box constructed of fully welded aluminium.
The box will easily accommodate the Hobie's Mirage drive, electronics and batteries, paddles, PFD's, rod holders, anchors, stake-out poles, drag chutes, spares parts, etc etc etc. The only thing that goes in the car are the rods.
After a trip the gear is cleaned, dried and repacked into the box ready for the next outting; no gear strewn all around the garage and no lost gear.

Decided to test out my 15mm lens inside the trailer
Going camping at the Salton Sea this weekend.
My work trailer loaded up for installing blown in cellulose insulation The machine is a very old Krendl 500. I also have a Krendl 1000 which is about twice as big but I am currently waiting on parts to fix it

Turning an older Burley kiddei hauler trailer into a cargo trailer as seen above.
Purchase the Burley d'Lite trailer at a flea market for $20 - all of the nylon was ripped and rotten and falling off the frame - just perfect for my needs.
Took it home - removed all nylon and textile products from frame.
Remove two angled upright aluminum tubes and bent them (by hand and foot method) to be somewhat symmetrical to serve at side rails.
My vision was to have this kiddie hauling trailer transform into a cargo trailer like the Burley Flatbed trailer.
I used two simple rules on the rebuild of this trailer:
1. Don't replace any hardware unless you have to.
2. Don't drill any more hole int the aluminum frame unless I have to.
Spent about $10 on stainless bolts and nuts with nylon inserts at Home Depot.
Spent about $5 on the plywood floor.
Friend gave me new hitch - the original one was old, rusty and broken.
Total cost for me to buy and own this trailer was about $40!!!!! I'm very happy with the results.
Very close to the Burley Flatbed trailer in looks and functionality.
