Elderly man exhales the smoke from his cigar as he readies himself to accept the spirit of the gods.
Situated on a narrow headland between the sea and Bodden - the peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst - lies Ahrenshoop. The artists' village Ahrenshoop now has more than 120 years of tradition. Immediately behind the dunes is the former residential and studio building by Theobald Schorn, built in 1909 in the style of typical fisherman's houses.

Pura Besakih is a temple (pura) complex in the village of Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung in eastern Bali, Indonesia. It is the most important, the largest and holiest temple of Hindu religion in Bali, and one of a series of Balinese temples. Perched nearly 1000 meters up the side of Gunung Agung, it is an extensive complex of 23 separate but related temples with the largest and most important being Pura Penataran Agung. The temple is built on six levels, terraced up the slope. The entrance is marked by a candi bentar (split gateway), and beyond it the Kori Agung is the gateway to the second courtyard

It is a tradition that every year another federal state donates a tree to the capital city of Vienna, which is then set up as a Christmas tree at the Christkindlmarkt in front of the City Hall. And it is also tradition that every year the ugliness of this tree causes discussions and the Viennese finally claim to have the ugliest Christmas tree in the world.
This year's ugly tree comes from Burgenland.
Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Kris Kringle, or simply Santa, is a legendary character originating in Eastern Christian culture who is said to bring children gifts on Christmas Eve of toys and candy or coal or nothing, depending on whether they are "naughty or nice". He is said to accomplish this with the aid of Christmas elves, who make the toys in his workshop at the North Pole, and flying reindeer who pull his sleigh through the air. The modern character of Santa is based on traditions surrounding the historical Saint Nicholas, the English figure of Father Christmas and the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas.
Children in the UK, USA and many other countries, such as Japan, open their presents on Christmas Day, December 25th. The latest presents are opened on January 6th (a month after the earliest). This is known as Epiphany and is mainly celebrated in Catholic countries such Spain and Mexico.

I have a passion for sailing boats, the older the better. Here you can see a traditional fishermen sailing boat with Lateen rigging in the marina of La Maddalena, in northern Sardinia.
The Lateen rigging is an ancient rigging found in all Mediterranean. La Maddalena is one of the few remaining places in Sardinia where they still build and use this kind of boats which are becoming very rare as they are hand built and so are expensive.
The Asmat villagers in Agats Western New Guinea took a break from their arduous daily routines to put on a traditional show. "Painted warriors" of all ages stood and chanted as their longboats circled around our zodiacs and enchanted us with their performance.
Enlarge to enjoy.

΄Αγιος Γεώργιος Γλίνους Τρικάλων Agios Georgios at Glinos Trikala
on my blog ΛΟΓΕΙΚΩΝ Logicon
The most beautiful cemetery, to my knowledge, is undoubtedly the Holy Church in honor of St. George in the village of Glinos, which, according to a built-in inscription, was erected in 1818 at the site of Paliokopria, where the village was originally then.
Recently completed work of restoration, landscaping and configuration of the surrounding area in full respect of the architectural character of the post-Byzantine monument,as designated by the Ministry of Culture, to be bequeathed to future generations well-established and more beautiful.
The tradition of “Peixe Seco”, drying fish excessively, is very old in Nazaré.
According to what they say, it arose from the need to preserve fish for as long as possible, to guarantee the livelihood of families when it was scarce. Although this way of treating the fish also allowed them to preserve it and then sell it in the markets of the region, something that continues to happen today.
When we were lads my two brothers and I would always play card games when we got together at Christmas.
Many thanks for all views, fav's - and particularly comments - all are greatly appreciated!
Happy Macro Mondays to you all!
