At a trade fair about public lighting in Expo Houten

A new occasional series I am thinking about based on a day out. This is part of a set from my day out at the Birmingham NEC for a manufacturing trade fair with my designer daughter.

This is the south entrance to the tradefair in Düsseldorf, Germany

Used my 50mm Prime after long time.

This one was shot at one of the Thailand stall in the International Mega Trade Fair, Science City, Kolkata, 17-27 December 2015

SCOUT: "Daddy? Daddy!"

DADDY: "Yes Scout?"

SCOUT: "Daddy, I want everyone to see the beautiful Little Red Riding Hood that I received as a Christmas gift from Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear this year!" *Preens.* "I look soooo pretty in it! Can you put my photograph on Looking Close on Friday? Please!"

DADDY: "But Scout, the theme for this week is red bows."

SCOUT: "Well, my new Little Red Riding Hood ties with a bow under my chin!" *Nods emphatically.* "See?" *Points to bow with paw.*

DADDY: "Hhhmmm... well, that is true, Scout, it does." *Doubtful.* "However, it's very small! The bow needs to be more of a focal point for the photograph."

SCOUT: "Oh I can fix that, Daddy!" *Smiles.* "Wait there!" *Rushes away before coming back with a big red bow tied under his chin.* "Now can you put my photograph on Looking Close on Friday, please Daddy?"

DADDY: "Goodness! Where did that ribbon come from?"

SCOUT: "It was one of the ones you collected from Christmas Day, yesterday. I think I look pretty!" *Preens more.* "Now, can you PLEASE put my photograph on Looking Close on Friday, Daddy, so that everyone can admire me?"

DADDY: "Alright Scout."

SCOUT: "Oh thank you, Daddy!" *Preens even more.* "I knew you would see it my way... eventually."

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 26th of December is "red bow". My little bear Scout received this beautifully made Little Red Riding Hood cape from Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear for Christmas this year, and whilst Scout is correct, it does tie with a bow, the bow was very small, so being a master of dress-ups, Scout embellished his new cape with a lovely big red bow! I hope you like my choice for this week's theme, and that it makes you smile!

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Skyline of Frankfurt/Main illuminated in golden light. In the center front you see the Messeturm (Trade Fair Tower), a 63-storey, 257 m (843 ft) skyscraper in the Westend-Süd district of Frankfurt. It is the second tallest building in Frankfurt, the second tallest building in Germany and the third tallest building in the European Union. It was the tallest building in Europe from its completion in 1991 until 1997. Source: Wikipedia

Originally delivered to AirBerlin in 1995, this classic 737 is seen at HAJ in the colours of short lived Bremenfly, daystopping on a tradefair charter flight

The approaching storm and the light on the buildings by the sunshine from backwards left allowed capturing lots of details.

The Messeturm is located near the Frankfurt Trade Fair grounds. Helmut Jahn designed the Messeturm in a postmodern architectural style. Despite its name, the Messeturm is not used for trade fair exhibitions but as an office building.

Seen at Tom Dixon's stand, featuring his amazing glass lamps very "Space Age" inspired and Universal Robots picking them up delicately, turning around, backing them up flawlessly.

Left: table light called "Melt" , a distorted orb-shaped glass lamp in a silver finish, emitting a mildly hallucinogenic light and hot-blown glass effect with a multiplicity of internal reflections from the integral LED when on, while it turns to have a mirror-finish and perfect reflective effect when off. Behind this, in the far left, there is the same lamp but in a copper finish.

Center: "Globe", a portable rechargeable led lamp in a gradient metallized smoked finish. A similar one is attached at the arm of the robot. Very appreciable the gamut of multiplied reflections mirrored inside the sphere.

These wireless lamps offer up to 10 hours of battery life, so they can be easily moved, placed and re-positioned wherever in a room without the proximity of an electric plug.

In the imaginary of Tom Dixon, he has conceived his lights inspired by melting glaciers and pictures of deep space.

My reportage and footage entitled "Anteprima Design Week" will carry on with further up-loads in the next days and weeks.

Design Week - Salone del Mobile Milano

My photo of one of the stands I liked the most.

The installation of ETHIMO, conceived by Studio AMDL Circle and Michele De Lucchi, proposed a dive into Nature with exclusively natural materials such as a floor in ears of wheat and hay and walls of straw. It's been so very nice to walk on... I would have wanted to be shoeless!

Ethimo is an Italian company specialized in high-end outdoor and gardening furniture.

Nature, innovation, design, natural colours and materials, are the core concepts characterizing its collections, inspired by the Mediterranean style, mood and nuances.

Another thing I found very smart and daring was that in this stand there were no sample products on show that they produce and commercialize. All the space was offered to visitors for the pleasure of this cool sensorial experience.

Well, just watched their catalogue and saw some essence wood lounge beds, gazebos, sofas, swings and outdoor gymn stations that are to die for !

From the Yellowknife Trade Fair!

Another diptych showing some views and details of the airy modular boat sail shaped structure of the Trade Fair buildings in Milano-Rho, designed by the architect Massimiliano Fuksas.

This architectural and design solution allows to continuously connect the inside with the outside of the fair pavillions.

The transparencies and airy environment is obtained by a combination of glass, plexiglass, steel, cement, water and a modular structure based on the triangle and the shape of many boat sails.

Photo taken on April 2023, during the "Salone del Mobile"

From my new album "Anteprima Design Week" (in progress with new adds-on for the whole month of May).

One of the colored installations at the new headquarters of the Fieramilano-Rho, during the Salone del Mobile / Euroluce with the new headline conceived for the Design Week "Do you speak Design?". Every colored capital letter is the initial of the name of an object of interior design.

This is a view from the inside of the fair which I very much like as it connects outdoor with indoor, allowing to continuously breath fresh air while exiting a pavillion to enter another one.

Concrete, crystal glass, plexiglass, iron and a wide pool lining the whole pedestrian track contribute to give a very harmonious modern ambiance.

Milano Design Week

- EuroLuce 2023 -

Carrying on my reportage on the Design Week,

my diptych to illustrate a collaboration between the English Designer Tom Dixon and Universal Robots, collaborative robots for picking, depalletization, singulation, sorting and production of fulfillment projects.

Here, a robotic model is able to pick up the most fragile and difficult object, a spheric glass lamp by Dixon and moving it around, shaking it, laying it down and picking it up again with absolute zero flaws.

This lamp is a spheric glass led light, in full coherence with Dixon's tastes, obsessed with spherical objects (I'm too!) showing what he asserts to be his perpetual quest for the purest forms. This light with a metallised opalescent copper finish (can be just clear too or in silver as in the forefront of my left shot) is highly mirrored and perfectly reflective during daylight but, what amazed me the most, when switched on, it reveals a multiplicity of internal reflections, too cool. This is appreciable by both my photos that I hope can lend how much this ambient and situation has fascinated me.

And you don't see me mirrored in the globes, although I was just photographing in front, isn't that magic ?

About the Designer Tom Dixon there would be a lot to say.

I will just mention that he designs e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g, from furniture to candles, passing by textiles, home interior items, crockery, stationary, beauty & body care products and even the inside bulbs of his lamps!

He has designed and furbished lots of restaurants and other premises. What I like of him the most is his style of presenting his creations with minivideos & music, and, you can rest assured, he chooses the soundtracks to match them perfectly!

I have taken all my photos "freehands" with no tripod and always in manual modality.

More photos are yet to come in the next days and weeks and will be added with descriptions to my new Album (in progress)

From my new album "Anteprima Design Week" (in progress with new adds-on for the whole month of May).

A diptych showing the two sort of spider structures, called

"Il Ragno", completely covered by a steel roofing, at the Trade Fair Fieramilano-Rho, used as convention and conference halls.

The headquarters recently hosted the new edition of

Salone del Mobile / Euroluce while the "Fuorisalone" is everywhere downtown and animates especially in the evening.

The entire architecture is made with a modular structure, integrating glass, iron, steel, cement, but also lighter materials like aluminium, plexiglass.

The glass and iron walls of the entire complex, looking like boat sails, have been projected by the architect Massimiliano Fuksas.

One spider is positioned at the beginning of the visiting track and the second at the far end of the track, close to the last pavillions. The pedestrian floor (much larger than just a corridor) is lined by a long and wide pool.

Inside the fair arrive both the underground and the fast long-distance trains.

The whole perimeter of the fair is pedestrian area, so it is possible to stay outside and walk either outside or inside to reach each pavillion.

I've been lucky to arrive quite early, before the opening of the gates but was standing in a long line. At a certain point, I flashed a question and approached some security men and, while I was asking them for an indication, the gates opened and I found myself among the first visitors to enter !

This fact allowed me few minutes and many meters of empty spaces to photograph some views at the architectures without almost anybody in front of me (and my camera ;-)

To stay "free hands", I didn't take with me a tripod...Oh, and I wished to have had a wide angle lens...

DDR-SDE is taxiing to Riem’s runway 25 for take-off. This airframe was also noted at Riem on 23 September 1990 (still as DDR-SDE) and in November 1990 (as D-AOBO).

During spring and autumn tradefair @ LEJ aka „Leipziger Messe“ Interflug operated nonstop charter flights with Tu-134 from LEJ to MUC via Czech airspace. They arrived late evening and departed Riem early as one of the first flights of the day shortly after 06:00LT. (Thanks to Ramin for this information.)

This Tupolev was built in September 1975 as a Tu-134AK for East German Air Force (operated in Interflug colours). Initially registered as DM-SDE, it became DDR-SDE in July 1981 and was transferred to Interflug in March 1985. Re-registered as D-AOBO in October 1990 for only about a year until ca. September 1991. The aircraft returned to the USSR in September 1991 as CCCP-65608 (2) first with Aeroflot and then with Komiavia (who leased it to Harka Air in June 1994). The last operator was UTair who used it from about 2006 to 2014. Scrapped in January 2015 at Syktyvkar (SCW / UUYY). (Sources: scramble.nl, planelogger.com, russianplanes.net)

A ©Vintage Workshop® production. All rights reserved.

At that time, Stefi aka Romy was in the welcome crew of the Vintage Workshop® &, preparing the local management advertizing of the event, she had the idea to join a special make up & body painting session held in the center of Milano on the occasion of the fashion catwalk shows. After she was made up & had modelled for a while, she moved with the Vintage Workshop® exhibition flyers to the fair headquarters that were active for hosting some of the main fashion events & exhibitions. With this weird outlook she could attire the interest of many fashion workers & designers and hand them our invitations to visit our event exhibiting in the same days a selection on Vintage fashion accessories (purses, shoes, fancy leather items) proposed to fashion operators as prototypes aimed at inspiring their future collections.

The photo has been taken by Francesco, a temporary worker in the Vintage Workshop® team, who was coordinating our hostesses as animator/entertainer for handing over our leaflets.

I challenged Stefi thinking she would not have showed up in that outlook in the worldwide heart of the fashion, Milano, but she really did! Here she is in front of one the main entrances of Milano Unica Fashion Trade Fair, the former fair headquarters of central Milano, nowadays moved in the suburbs (Rho, at about 30kms from the city, unfortunately).

Stefi has moved to Paris around 8 years ago and is now a successful artist & art educator. She comes back to her home town Milano only when she is committed for her own erotic sculpture or photography exhibitions.

The logo of the Leipzig Trade Fair (Leipziger Messe), the double-M.

Since 1895, Leipzig had the first sample fair in the world. The double-M of the logo stands for Mustermesse, German for sample fair.

The logo was built in 1917 and is located at the old trade fair area (Alte Messe). It is probably Leipzig's most famous landmark.

The exposure time of 200 seconds in bright daylight was achieved by stacking a 10-stop and a 6-stop ND filter (x 64,000).
