Traction Avant, literalmente “tracción delantera”, ya que fue el primer coche producido en serie que introdujo la tracción delantera. Hasta entonces los automóviles tenían el motor delantero y la tracción trasera, lo que llevaba a tener un “tunel de transmisión” entre uno y otro; las dos soluciones al problema fueron: la tracción delantera de este modelo y el motor trasero del Volkswagen escarabajo (casi de la misma época). Fue presentado el 18 de abril de 1934
En España fue conocido como Citroën 11 y se le dio, incorrectamente, el apodo de “pato”, debido a su parecido con un modelo anterior, que llevaba un pato grabado en los estribos.
El Citroën Tracción Avant era de línea muy moderna para la época. La carrocería fue obra de un escultor italiano, Flaminio Bertoni, que también diseñó el 2CV y el Citroën DS (el famoso “tiburón”)
Se fabricaron 759.123 unidades de diversas versiones a lo largo de 23 años.

Vor der imposanten Kulisse der südtiroler Alpen und der berühmten Apfelplantagen gelang dieses Foto des RTC Tandems (EU43-006 und EU43-007) mit ihrem DGS 43133 aus München-Riem Ubf nach Verona Quadrante Europa.
The trip to the summer vacation was interrupted for some shots on the Brenner Railway in section RFI 43 (Bozen-Verona) near Salurn/Salorno. In front of the impressive backdrop of the South Tyrolean Alps and the famous apple orchards, this photo of the RTC tandem (EU43-006 and EU43-007) hauling DGS 43133 from Munich-Riem Ubf to Verona Quadrante Europa was successfully taken.

A l'époque où le train de brame entre Dillingen et Dunkerque était tracté par VFLI, la DE6312F de l'opérateur Français est photographiée en tête d'une rame chargée dans la longue courbe d'Ensdorf. La traction de ces convois par des Class777 n'aura été que de courte durée. Quelques mois plus tard, le trafic était repris par la SNCF, et des BB37000 sur tout le trajet.

Once again I found myself in wind chills less than -20 to shoot Iowa Traction doing their thing at AGP in Mason City, Iowa. Quite the sight to see all that steam coming out of the facility in such conditions.
The trail to Hidden Canyon in Zion Canyon NP was compact snow and ice and very treacherous. The conditions made for fewer people on the trail, which was a bonus.
