KCC 403, 406, and 401, all 125-ton, 3000 Volt General Electric "Magna Motors", mingle in Kennecott Copper's Copperton Yard on Oct. 14, 1978. Built in 1947, these boxy, purposeful electric ore haulers made easy work of Kennecott's 16-mile, CTC equipped haulage line between Copperton and the Magna ore dumpers. In two months time, these venerable machines would be sidelined, replaced by a fleet of seven new EMD SD40-2s.
