Thus far I have tried three different bits on my CNC to mill circuit boards. My favorite bit for cutting traces so far is a inexpensive $2.40 fish tail router that I've been purchasing through Drill Bit City. It's a little wide at .8mm ( 31.5 mils ) diameter for surface mount, but nice for quick through hole test boards. Previously I'd been experimenting with V shaped carving bits so that I could do very fine SMT work, but they needed to be run so slowly (avoid breaking the tip) and at such minimal depths that I had to wait hours for circuit boards to finish.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and the OTDR picture (or "trace" as they are called) takes a lot of words to describe all the information in it.
Trace fossils in the Cambrian of Tennessee, USA.
Trace fossils, also known as ichnofossils, are any indirect evidence of ancient life. They refer to features in rocks that do not represent parts of the body of a once-living organism. Traces include footprints, tracks, trails, burrows, borings, and bitemarks. Body fossils provide information about the morphology of ancient organisms, whereas trace fossils provide information about the behavior of ancient life forms. Interpreting trace fossils and determination of the identity of a trace maker can be straightforward (for example, a dinosaur footprint represents walking behavior) or not. Sediments that have trace fossils are said to be bioturbated. Burrowed textures in sedimentary rocks are referred to as bioturbation. Trace fossils have scientific names assigned to them, in the same style and manner as living organisms or body fossils.
This rock is eroded from the Rome Formation in northeastern Tennessee. The Rome Formation in the Appalachian Basin ranges in age from upper Lower Cambrian to Middle Cambrian to possibly lower Upper Cambrian.
Stratigraphy: float from the Rome Formation, upper Lower Cambrian
Locality: roadcut on the northeastern side of Route 25E through Comby Ridge, northwest of Raven Hill & southeast of Tazewell, Tennessee, USA

چند باری رفتم و باز آمدم ، در حاشیه ی تاریک نخلستان،
گردش آهسته ای ، همراه تنهایی.

Trace Adkins is an American country music artist. He made his debut in 1996 with the album Dreamin' Out Loud, released on Capitol Records Nashville. Since then, Adkins has released seven more studio albums and two Greatest Hits compilations. In addition, he has charted more than 20 singles on the Billboard country music charts, including the Number One hits "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing", "Ladies Love Country Boys", and "You're Gonna Miss This", which peaked in 1997, 2007, and 2008, respectively. "I Left Something Turned on at Home" went to #1 on Canada's country chart. All but one of his studio albums have received gold or platinum certification in the United States; his highest-selling to date is 2005's Songs About Me, which has been certified 2× Multi-Platinum for shipping two million copies.
Today I will show you something I found on last year's sky pictures:
This picture shows an anomaly in the sky in the upper part of the lower right quadrant. It is a light trace nearly perpendicular to the star traces. And it crawls ever so slowly through the sky. The trace appears on all 6 subsequent exposures i did on this sky area. Direction of viewing is up to the zenit. The trace varies greatly in it's luminosity throughout the series. In one exposure it reaches a flare like the brightest star in this image while in 2 others it is just faintly above background noise level.
I selected this frame because it shows a good overall brightness + some brightness variation throughout the exposure.
What is also noteable about the trace is that it shows a flat top/bottom at the start and end of the trace. (On this exposure it is only slightly noteable at the bottom when viewed in lightbox or full size. On another exposure where it starts very bright it's quite noticeable. This hints on some size because it must travel quite high as the sun is already a good bit below the horizon)
So what is it ? No idea. I can only tell you what it is not:
- Not a plane
- Not a sattelite
- Not a meteor / shooting star.

Although I’d been out all morning I wanted to go to the Fête, “Trace ta Route” in St. Gilles in the afternoon. When I got into the Place there was almost no-one there which wasn’t a good sign, other than I saw Martyn again, he was helping with the animation and was sitting talking to some other friends before going off to the main part of the fun. He introduced me to his friend and suggested I asked her if she’d take part in my project. Maybe I ought to employ him as my agent!!
Meet Messa, she’s 40 years old and originally comes from Algeria, but has lived in France for the last 23 years. She’s a Social Worker by trade and likes to relax and spend time with her daughters and friends when she’s not working. When she was younger she had wanted to do something in architecture but her maths wasn’t good enough.
I took several photos of Messa where she was sitting, but she was also watching her younger daughter who was near the road. I chose the main photo because it was my favourite and have added another one in comments, as usual. I also got permission to take a photo of Messa and her eldest daughter together and another one of her younger one. (All in comments). I then asked if there was anything she hadn’t liked to eat as a child and she said yes. She didn’t and still doesn’t like peas. It’s not a very convincing photo of not liking something, but it was obvious that she didn’t like them.
I then took my notes and we chatted for a while, but with other people coming up to talk to us and keeping an eye on her little one we didn’t get to talk that much. She gave me her e-mail address so I can end her the photos.

Traces of cosmic rays in a spark chamber. Charged particles cause trails of sparks, which can be seen.
Interestingly, I saw the same kind of exhibit in Stockholm a few years ago and it was far more active. But Geneva has 57% higher incidence of cosmic rays. Maybe there are differences in the machines, or I was in Stockholm during a solar maximum.
