Had some heavy traffic on Jericho Tpk today and I was able to catch 227 stopped at a red light. I’d assume it was subbing for route B. This bus has a Cat 3126 and the Allison 2000 6-speed automatic transmission.
A September 2008 view of the entrance to Arriva's Guildford depot.
From left to right are:
3731 (GN54 MYO) - park and ride Volvo still in its personal light green livery, about to go out on route 4, a favourite of these buses. Since the photo, joint operation of the 4 with Safeguard has ended (ended in May 2010), the bus went through a purple spell, and in September 2013 Stagecoach took over the Guildford park and ride, following which 3731 was transferred to TGM at Harlow.
5215 (N715 TPK) - Dennis Dominator. One of four new to Guildford and the last four Dominators built, 5214/5 managed to stay in Guildford until September 2009 when they moved to Maidstone (joining 5213 which made the move in about 2006). When seen, Guildford only had two service deckers, down from three before 5213 moved away. B7TLs 6402/3 moved to Guildford to replace 5214/5. In 2011, a third B7TL, 6415 arrived, bringing GF's decker total up to three once more. However, a low bridge on the deckers' route, the 34 Guildford - Camberley, for which 5215 is blinded here (though it looks like it did an evening short working last) means double deckers can no longer be used, so as of October 2013, GF only have one service decker, shuttling around on uni route 38.
3934 (GK52 YUX) and 3927 (GK51 SZE) - DAF SB120/Wright Cadets. New in 2001/2002 as part of a major investment of 22 new buses to Guildford, the 51-reg batch for Surrey Hills services and the 52-reg batch for the 34/35. Since this photo, they've been treated to new livery and some have been retrimmed. Also, several more of the same vintage, but shorter well worked ex-London ones, turned up in 2012/3. Not quite the same investment! 3934 and 3927 have still got their original power blinds in here. These were very unreliable and had a strong tendency to get stuck - for instance 3927 is showing the 111 to Cranleigh. I particularly remember seeing one going through St Johns on the 34 with full blind details for the 22 to Dorking on show! They must have been bad, as most were fitted with roller blinds before they were treated to LEDs in late 2009 - presumably the LEDs out of the Darts from the sold Horsham operations.
3038 (N425 VPH) - Dennis Dart SLF/East Lancs Spryte. Guildford still had a handful of these kicking around in 2008. Most went - either to Arriva Midlands or Kent - in around 2002 when Woking garage closed and the new DAFs were turning up. The last remaining ones at Guildford went after the six new route 91 Enviro200s entered service in January 2009. Sadly, this is the best photo I got of a Spryte at Guildford! 3038 went to Gillingham for further service, and lasted until December 2012 before being withdrawn, and cut up in March 2013.
So basically, in five years, most of the photo is out of date! In fact, in the five years, Guildford have gone from no interurban livery to all interurban livery - from the Enviros' arrival in December 2008 to Dart 3102's withdrawal in September 2013.

Back to July 2020 and presumably due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, three members of the always smartly turned out Peelings Coaches of Tittleshall fleet find themselves VOR at a Mid Norfolk location. All three are based upon the Volvo B12M type chassis and from left to right as we look they are Plaxton bodied JJZ 9130 - "Norfolk Mardler", Van Hool bodied T9 TPK - “Flying Canary” and Van Hool bodied JJZ 8021 - “Norfolk Hero”.
JJZ 9130 was originally delivered new to Lakeside of Ellesmere in January 2007 with registration YN56 ORZ and having entered the Peelings fleet in August 2015, it subsequently received their cherished plate JJZ 9130 in February 2016.
T9 TPK was originally delivered new to Shearings Holidays in March 2002 with registration MV02 ULY and it later passed to Elcock’s of Madeley where it carried their cherished plate 3572 NT. Reregistered back to MV02 ULY just prior to joining the Peelings fleet in March 2016 it subsequently received cherished plate T9 TPK the following month.
JJZ 8021 was originally new to Scottish operator Southern of Barrhead as SB02 SOU in April 2002 it subsequently passed to Simonds of Diss where it carried their cherished registration 166 UMB between January 2008 and October 2013. During the latter month, as SB02 SOU once again, it moved from Diss to Tittleshall and was given Peelings cherished plate JJZ 8021 in the December of that year.
