In the heart of Dorset, just off the A3030, nestled between Sherborne & Bishops Caundle.

After more heavy rain overnight; today is a mixture of sunshine and showers.

A chance to get the bike out for a spin, but lots of "standing water" and debris in the road makes interesting riding on the "twisty bits". Devon hedges or banks means you often can't see round a bend - 2 inches of water, loose stones, gravel, mud and autumn leaves can come as a nasty surprise. Fortunately the "Africa Twin" is not a sports bike and was built for far rougher stuff than this.

Great bike - buy one!

The company began as an aircraft engine manufacturer in the early 20th century and through World War I. BMW manufactured its first motorcycle in 1923, the R32, which featured flat-twin boxer engine. BMW Motorrad still uses the flat-twin boxer configuration, but now manufactures motorcycles with a variety of engine configurations.

F series – parallel-twin engines of 798 cc capacity, featuring either chain or belt drive. Models are F650GS, F800GS, F800R, F800S and F800ST.

G series – single-cylinder engines of 449 to 652 cc capacity featuring chain drive. Models are G450X, G650GS (available in some markets), G650 Xmoto, G650 Xchallenge and G650 Xcountry. The 450 cc engines are manufactured by Kymco in Taiwan.[10] The 2009 and 2010 650 cc engine parts were manufactured Rotax in Austria, with the engine being assembled by Loncin Holdings, Ltd in China.[11][12]

R series – twin-cylinder boxer engines of 1,170 cc capacity featuring shaft drive. Models are R1200GS, R1200R, R1200RT and R1200S.

K series – four-cylinder engines of 1,157 to 1,649 cc capacity featuring shaft drive. Models are K1200LT, K1300GT, K1300R and K1300S. In 2010, BMW Motorrad announced the six-cylinder 1,649 cc K1600GT and K1600GTL, which will enter production in 2011.[13]

S1000RR – sport bike with transverse-mounted, 999 cc inline-four engine.

BWM K1600GTL - stuff I've changed or added ... accesories.

I get quite a few message from folks either here, Instagram or YouTube asking how I like the bike or what changes have I made. So I went for a ride and took pictures of the items I've changed/added. Most recently, I added the side stand foot.

Anyway, no particular order:

- Cee Bailey windshield - inch wider on each side and a light tint vs the stock ... the contour helped reduce buffeting.

- Seat/saddle - Russell Day Long saddle - sent them the pan and it was customized to Laura and I based on inseam, height & weight plus our inputs. This was the best improvement for me. They retained the seat heaters.

- Luggage Rack - It is a Honda OEM rack for the Gold Wing - GL1800 ... I liked it better than the BWM aftermarket selection and I made it work.

- Engine guard - Altrider

- Side stand foot - Altrider

- Handlebar bag - Touratech ... this fits my iPhone7plus, toll cash and in a ziplock a copy of my registration, insurance and license. Easy place to put business cards that you are handed and other stuff. Great utility bag.

- Top case brake light - BMW OEM aftermarket install ... didn't come standard ... helps people know I'm braking. So far, no one has rear ended me.

Getting the bike ready to tour ... purchased items from Revzilla, AltRider, Touratech, WingStuff & Cee Bailey.

The additions/changes are: Cee Bailey windscreen - wider & tinted, fender extender, Touratech pouch (holds iPhone 6 plus), highway pegs, Honda GL1800 luggage rack (hack job) and finally some fresh rubber and rear brake pads.
