What can you say about these guys but that they are tough. At the Continental Bank building fire, August 9, 2016
Tough times can’t stop you.
The only thing that can stop you is you.
If you get knocked down, get back up and go again.

Actually this is the beginning of a fight. :-)
看起來像是令人感動的愛情故事,實際上是一場激烈搏鬥的開始,上方的海鷗,正在使盡吃奶的力氣,用嘴喙去全力攻擊下方的海鷗。

This juvenile Oystercatcher (black streaks on his bill) wasn't getting the hint that he's now fending for himself when it comes to feeding time. Tough love for the class of '25.
taken on today's stroll. Too windy for a relaxing bike ride today. 18-25mph winds on the open highway makes bike rides a bit too intense for flat out fun. It puts the kibosh to riding upright with no hands while enjoying the freedoms of life while you take in the great scenery. Instead, you best be clinging to the handlebars and take on an aerodynamic form.
I found these tough little pansies all alone on a bluff overlooking an irrigation canal.
This cow elk earns high marks for toughness. As you can see, she had some wounds. She has a larger gash on her lower side, lots of scratches on her back and rump, and some small punctures on her shoulder.
But what caused those wounds you may ask. As soon as I saw them on my computer screen, I thought they were likely from a mountain lion attack. So I sent the photo to Colorado Parks and Wildlife and received a reply from their district wildlife manager who agreed that the injuries were indeed from a mountain lion attack.
It is rare for a cougar to attack an adult elk. They usually attack calves or yearlings.
This cow is likely to survive the injuries and I wouldn't be surprised if she produces another calf next spring.
I saw my first Ladder-backed Wookpecker in Huntington Beach Central Park. Maureen Sullivan, both an excellent birder and bird photographer, pointed him out to me a couple of weeks ago. Little did I realize that these Woodpeckers inhabit our desert spot in Anza Borrego Desert! Yesterday was the first time I had seen one there.

I was informed yesterday that this picture was an honorable mention in the ND Awards 2020 international photography contest. I'm glad this Northern Hawk Owl (Surnia ulula) chose to perch in a tough spot instead of the many available branches nearby.

This Seagull definitely had an attitude yesterday. He looked like one tough bird headed my way. Surreal-Journey says it looks like a Great Black-Backed Gull.
Tough Guy is back raiding the bird feeder. Any deviation from safflower seeds seems to be appealing.
Experimenting today with shooting RAW. The C-Lux has an idiosyncratic RAW format that Apple doesn’t support (grrrrr—but Lightroom on iPad does, as of recently), but the camera itself supports RAW processing under user control. All the appropriate basic functionality is available, but I still did not quite recover detail in the brightest highlights. Otherwise, pretty good, and clearly an improvement over the default JPG conversion. Since I have been shooting for 8 months and have only filled half the 64GB SD card in the camera, I think I’ll switch from JPG to RAW+JPG, and dig detail out of the highlights & shadows before conversion when necessary.
This friendly and lovely 75 yo lady such a tough cookie😍 every single day she climb up and down to the top of the mountain where she will serve a simple breakfast for the climbers. She built her own little bamboo hut there by herself. And her grateful smile made her look younger than her age😍😘
'The oldest continuing cycle race in the world'
This prestigious event goes back to 1886 and, with the exception of the war years, has been run ever since. Traditionally on the first Sunday in October. prior to the formation of the RTTC it was considered to be the ‘Championship of All England’ and still attracts the leading 'Hill-Climb' riders from all over the country.
The challenge is Yorks Hill, a 707yd climb with an average gradient of 12.5%, with two stretches of 25%. Needing an all-out lung bursting effort.

The folks in this cabin have endured a very tough winter. Temperatures down to 45 F. degrees below zero - and more snow than usual. From the looks of their roof - most of the heat from the woodstove is lost due to lack of insulation. But they are doing just fine, and looking forward to spring.

This little one was slowly making his way down the boardwalk ... not keeping up with the bigger kids. Here he was giving up trying to keep up ...

Northern mockingbirds live across the United States and in parts of Canada and Mexico. The mockingbird is the state bird of Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. They’re commonly found on tall shrubs or tree branches on the edges of forests, in backyards, or in parks.
Northern mockingbirds are known for their ability to mimic everything from sirens to crickets to other bird species. Scientists think they produce these copycat calls to show off for potential mates. The animals also belt out songs unique to mockingbirds.
These feathered tough guys are territorial and chase away other birds that invade their home turf. They’re especially protective during breeding season in spring. Females lay up to six eggs, two to three times each season. Chicks leave the nest just 12 days after hatching.
I found this one along Joe Overstreet Road in Osceola County, Florida.
Gunnar - a tough, lovely and very cuddly guy, about 2 years old, who was saved by The Norwegian Society for Protection of Animals this fall. He is now looking for an adoptive home ♡
