I eviscerated a metal pen and then filled it with a slice of a blue dish sponge. Voila! Touch screen stylus.

Or, as some call this, an MTmini.
Materials (including camera) were provided by my lovely friends at CanTouch. It was built with some help from my sister, who's an extremely gifted crafter/maker and has a kick-ass workshop.
On my Mac, I can read this thing's output and process it using BBTouch. From there I make use of the Reactable team's TUIO library for Processing to prototype stuff.
Visual output is on my Mac's screen, so it's not a true multi-touch interface, but it's enough to experiment with things. Once I have something running I'd be able to simply load it on a proper table and really play with it.
Now, what shall I build…?
Our two touch tanks at MarineQuest were a big hit with the kids! Visitors could pick up invertebrates and learn more about the different marine life found in Florida waters.
Mamallapuram Beach
Alike an airplane, the take off and touch down are the most crucial moments, the rolling breakers a challenge for fishermen, the lightest as bow man, to jump on the beach to guide the boat, square to the surf.

"Wanna watch Charton Heston play a Mexican?" (Get Shorty).
Venice beach was the location used as a Mexican boarder town for the 1958 thriller "Touch of Evil" (top) with Charton Heston and Janet Leigh. When possible, I tried to match the location of the screen grab.

Burial plot of Eliot Ness, his third wife Elisabeth and their son Robert in Lake View Cemetery. After leaving the Treasury Department Ness was appointed Cleveland's Safety Director, which put him in charge of the city's police and fire departments.
I have trouble trusting a photographer who never photographs themselves. I can't help wondering what they're hiding. Are we expected to believe that they see with the eyes of a ghost? They're like ectoplasmic shutterbugs, floating through space, having no presence in the world around them. I'm talking about self-portraits, not selfies, though I've got no inherent hatred of the practice. It's just hard to see yourself honestly habitually at arm's length from your face. The temptation is to look good, too often, until you end up on the wrong side of a funhouse mirror, completely disconnected from reality.
Ever since the early days of the internet, I've always hated taking my own picture. But it seemed important to get it across, to show my face instead of hiding behind the avatar of some hobby or interest. If I don't like the way I look, all the better. The awkward expressions and stuttering body language are just as good at telling the truth. More than anything, I need the reminder that this is a human story. When I'm taking pictures in the places that people lived once, it really helps to put myself in the present.
What's the message? Don't forget where you've been and how you got there. I try to be the someone in the somewhere, because it's so easy to lose my meaning, to look in the mirror and not recognize the face I'm seeing. There's something freeing about the cage of a composition – for all the times I question my existence, here's the proof that I existed for a moment. There's something naked about exposure, any movement captured in a fraction of a second, or standing still for half a minute. I'm not much for planning, after all, you get no retakes of your memories. I just remind myself of the goodness of human senses, and how it always pays to feel freely. Touch and listen, taste and see.

So one last touch and then you'll go
and we'll pretend that it meant something so much more
but it was vile, and it was cheap
and you are beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me.
I wanted to believe in all the words that I was speaking,
as we moved together in the dark
and all the friends that I was telling
all the playful misspellings
and every bite I gave you left a mark.
Fancy's favorite trick. Wave but it starts as a touch of paw to palm and becomes a wave as the dog attempts to touch your out of reach hand.
