Toruń is one of most attractive and historic towns in Poland.
It is famous for being the birthplace ( in 1474 ) of the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus whose epochal book, De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium is universally regarded as the starting point of modern astronomy.
In 1997 the old medieval quarter of Toruń comprising the Old Town ( 1233 ), the New Town ( 1264 ) and the Teutonic Knights Castle ( mid 13th c. ) was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for having preserved almost intact its original medieval street layout. Toruń is full of Gothic monuments of architecture, all built of brick, such as the Town Hall, The Leaning Tower, numerous churches and many burgher houses around the central market square and the surrounding streets.
If you ever are in Gdańsk on the coast, I recommend driving down to Toruń - it's only 2hrs away on the motorway - the place has a great artistic atmosphere and a lively cafe scene.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Toruń is one of the three preserved Gothic temples. Originally built as a Franciscan church, in the years 1557-1724 in the hands of Protestants. In the years 1724-1821 taken over by the Bernardines and since 1830 is a parish church.
The first church was built in the middle of the 13th century, was a rectangular building with a length of about 20 m and a width of about 9 m.
The present, fourth church in the form of a three-nave hall was erected at the end of 14th century.

Kościół Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Marii Panny w Toruniu jest jedną z trzech zachowanych gotyckich świątyń. Wybudowany pierwotnie jako kościół franciszkański, w latach 1557-1724 w rękach protestantów. W latach 1724-1821 przejęty przez bernardynów a od 1830 roku jest kościołem parafialnym.
Pierwszy kościół powstał w połowie XIII wieku, był prostokątną budowlą salową o długości ok. 20 m i szerokości około 9 m.
Obecny, czwarty kościół w postaci trójnawowej hali powstał w końcu XIV wieku.

The Old Town Torun is one of the most valuable historical monuments in Poland. In 1997, he was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It includes Old and New Town with almost unchanged 13th-century urban layout and the area of the Teutonic Castle.

Toruń (German: Thorn) is an ancient city in northern Poland, on the Vistula River. Torun is one of the oldest cities in Poland. The medieval old town of Toruń is the birthplace of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.
In 1997 the medieval part of the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2007 the Old Town in Toruń was added to the list of Seven Wonders of Poland.
