Tony Schumacher, driver of the U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster, greets the crowd at Infineon raceway's NHRA Nationals.

Friday night Top Fuel qualifying, 2008 NHRA Southern Nationals. Atlanta Dragway, Commerce GA.

God Bless America!

This is Tony Schumacher's NHRA Top Fuel Dragster.

If you've never been to an NHRA event, the next time you'll get to see/feel this in Las Vegas is in October.

To say this machine is loud is an understatement.

Other than the Space Shuttle which you won't get to see anymore, this is the loudest man made object that you can get close to on earth.

But 'Loud' doesn't even begin to describe it.

It ROARS.

It BELLOWS.

It's so loud you can feel your skeleton shake when they fire it off the line.

Even knowing that the launch is coming (via the staging lights) it still takes your breath away when it goes.

Boasting an astonishing 8,000 plus horsepower from a 500 cubic inch block, this baby pulls 5G's and easily breaks 300 mph in the quarter mile. There is nothing else like this anywhere. I was lucky they allowed me up next to the beast to capture this image. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near here when they fire it up.

Vrroooom!

This collage was beautifully painted by a very gifted artist at BT Illustrations. I do not take any credit for the paintings just for the picture that I took of it. Thank you BT Illustrations for setting me straight :-)
