Most of the Hummingbirds have now left Texas on their journey south, I was lucky enough to capture this little one with tongue extended during the last wave of visitors.
This Great Blue Heron looked very impressive as it displayed all of its plumes at Everglades National Park. Then it stuck its long tongue out (at me?). His bill appears to be closed, but his tongue is out. I'm not sure what he was doing, but I am sure that many viewers of this picture will have an answer :-)
This tiny little fern is only around 2.5 inches tall. It grows on grassland and can be seen at this time of year, for a very short period, before it is lost to sight as the grass grows and covers it.

These Green Anoles are a common lizard in Florida. I spent a couple enjoyable hours stalking and photographing them in my sister's yard and garden.
Much like frogs, these lizards have sticky and lightning-fast tongues to catch their unsuspecting prey, then retract them and gulp down the insect.

In autumn I have always called these Sumac leaves, tongues of fire because of their intense red color and shape. They always stand out wherever they are.

I don't know what possessed me to tie a load of knots into spaghetti for Macro Mondays 'Knots' theme. it was messy! This is a figure of eight knot which appeals to me and was possible to do with pasta.
