A news source said: "Rime frost occurs on foggy nights when moisture deposits create spiky formations on cool surfaces, whereas hoarfrost forms on cool, clear nights rising from moisture near the ground and has a fluffier incarnation." Given we had fog, and at -18°C overnight, there was little chance of moisture rising from the ground, I'd say... There was lots of frost on the treetops and much less on the lower branches...
PS - For those not familiar with the concept anymore, behind the branches is a clear, blue sky... 😄
The liquidambar (sweet gum) ....always early with red leaves here in Berkeley. The City has planted a lot of them as sidewalk trees. They look beautiful, but the nuts are a nuisance underfoot during autumn and winter!

One more discovery as I review and cull old photos. Cropped to remove some redundant sky and provide a wider view, but otherwise SOOC. The color is strictly what you see is what you get. Hooray for vivid winter sunsets! And Happy TmT!
Our first significant accumulation of snow this winter. I'm the only one driving on this road, going back and forth and shooting photos out the car window. HTmT!
If I had to decode the message here, I would say "Bugs inside!"

Found this growing out of one of the thousands of trees lost during this year's horrific ice storm. #TMT
Taken in Trelissick Park with the water of Carrick Roads at my right going down to Falmouth . A fascinating tree that I have taken a number of times whilst we stayed at Trelissick many times . Trelissick House is just visible beyond the tree , at the time it was lived in but now is in the hands of The National Trust .
From here a circular walk ( the South Walk ) drops down to the beach and then follows the headland round until it comes to the King Harry Ferry and then back up the narrow road to Trelissick Gardens once again . There is a North Walk staring and stopping where the South Walk finishes and this walk is a longer and varied walk through woodland and along side the creek with an extra section to Roundwood Quay .
Mit dem Tramper-Monats-Ticket ging die erste Tour in 1980 im Nachtzug von Düsseldorf , mit längeren nächtlichen Halt in Ingolstadt, nach München. Erstes Ziel war der Rbf. München-Ost Hier war u.a. 145 168, die ich damals eher im Raum Freiburg vermutet hätte, mit Rangier- und Bereitstellungs-Aufgaben beschäftigt. Genau die Lok gibt es heute übrigens für die heimische Modellbahn von Brawa.
