The pain had completely subsided from Kiko's head, and all of his senses were sharper than they ever had been.
He had heard Oboe squeal with delight, and had felt something protrude from his head. He held his breathe nervously. "Surely not", he thought to himself. "Surely it hasn't happened".
At right is Chickpea, the Stone Sprite, from Will o' Wisp Dolls. At right is the yet unnamed Tit'herbe, from Nympheas Dolls.
But just as he was about to reach up an touch whatever was sprouting from his head, Oboe let out a tremendously happy sound and his ears shot above his head quicker than a flash.
Kiko covered his mouth in disbelief. What on earth was going on?
Oboe began to glow slightly and his body began to change right before Kiko's eyes.
Kiko closed his eyes and started concentrating. He wasn't completely sure how to transform fully into a fox, but his sister, Koneko, had walked him through it on several occasions while trying to help him. He could hear her in his head. "Kiko, you have to concentrate with all of your might. You have to imagine yourself as a fox. Feel it in your heart", Koneko had said to him. "In your heart".
Kiko surrounded himself in thoughts of himself as a fox. He could feel the wind in his fur, smell the scents of the earth, and the grass under his tough paws.
When Kiko opened his eyes, he was several inches lower to the ground. His sight had become so keen that he could see even the smallest molecule of dust upon the carpet. He tried to speak, but only a small growl came from his lips. A fox he had become, at last.

Kiko let out a small yelp in alarm. There, where Oboe had been standing not a second before, was a taller and more powerful looking creature, smiling from ear to ear.
"O...Oboe?", Kiko said nervously. "What happened?".
Oboe laughed loudly before facing Kiko.

He hasn't got a name just yet, but he's the cutest little thing! Doesn't he have the most delightful smile?

Kiko stared in disbelief at his friend. Magic? What magic had he found? Surely he hadn't...and then he felt them. At first, he thought that, like so many times before, he had imagined it, but no. He could feel them moving, blood pounding in them, and the sounds that he could hear in them were all new to him.
Kiko mustered the last of the energy that he had left after his hard day, raised his hands above his head...and felt them for the first time. His fox ears.
He withdrew his hands quickly. "How could this be?", Kiko thought to himself. "Never have I shown even the slightest tendency of being magical. Why now?". But then he felt his insecurities disappearing, and his confidence took a roaring leap forward. "Can I do it?", he wondered. "Can I fully transform?".
Kiko burst out jumping with excitement. Oboe ran forward and enveloped him in a huge hug. "I knew you had it in you, Kiko! All you had to do was believe deep down inside that your magic would finally emerge. You've done it, at last!", Oboe said as he and Kiko danced a merry dance around the room.
"You have finally found it, Kiko!", said Oboe happily as he danced on the spot. "Your magic! And since you have finally found it, I have been able to take my final form. I can now fully protect you, and your magical powers, from any harm".
Kiko couldn't wait to tell his family about his huge achievement. Oboe was finally able to to become his true self, and Kiko had finally found his magic. He was not a human after all, but a powerful Animagis. One of the few left on the earth.
The played around for awhile longer, Oboe teaching Kiko a few basics about being a fox, before they both bounded out of the room to find his mother, father, and sister and tell them the tremendous news.
