This was taken last Sunday in my cousin's betrothal. It was inside a hall with not too many windows and I shot this function completely without using flash, the only light source I had was the light from the video camera flash. Comments and criticisms welcome

Built by Rajendra Cholan I (1012) lord sri Ramanatha Eswarar. The legend found in Sanskrit language and in grantha character. Written on the periphery of the seal is as follows, Rajad-Rajanya Makuta sreni-ratnesu sasanam Etad Rajendra Cholasya parakesari varmanah.

This temple is a fine ekatala vimana,with square body,bhadra projections,and with circular griva,ikhara,and stupi.The vimana and its ardhamandapa face east.The adhisthana is Padabandha.The bhittipadas,paired on the corners,are Brahmakanta.The mandi is of plain pali form.The bhadras contain devakostha with a plain torana face, more campanulate than semicircular.These enshrine Brahma (north),vishnu (west),and shivadaksinamurthi (south),all standing.

In the prastara,projected beam ends at the corners over he forward corbel arms,lupa and jayani ends projected over the cantoning pilasters of the bahdra,and the ends of the transverse transom in front,are all decorated by fine carving.Above a bhutamala,the flexed kapota has nasis over each pilaster,their gadha part enclosing humann head.The simhamukha finial are in many cases lot.The vyalamala on top acts as base for four projected grivakosthas.

The short,drum-shaped griva has plain walls between the cardinal nasikas.The bell-shaped sikhara bulges slightly,smoothly curving in before splaying out to form the ostha or avalambana that overhangs the bhutamala at the top of the griva.The nahanasis strogly projected.The grivakosthas enshrine seated siva (east), brahma (north) , visnu (west), and daksinamurti (south). The stupi over the mahapadma is of metal.Four nandid are places at the base of the griva.The ardhamandapa slightly less in width,has two more vrsas on its front corners facing east.There are no con temporary inscriptions.Systically the temple is of the period of Rajaraja I

Hello - I haven't been active here for the past couple of weeks, but only because I was away taking pictures.

 

Had an incredible trip back to where I grew up - this image was taken on the way.

 

A lush green tree tunnel on a major highway? Impossible to miss (although I wonder how many people actually miss it because 'they see it every day'). Add to that 3 beautiful village women, colourfully dressed making their daily commute with their goats? Absolutely frame-worthy.
