Cocktail, Time Out market

Built in 1929 as a Sears Roebuck & Company warehouse and distribution center, it served that function until its closing in 1988. The property was renovated and reopened as the Landmark Center in 2000. Today, 401 Park is a life sciences hub with multiple retail outlets as well as a 13-screen cinema and food options such as the Time Out Market and Trillium Brewing Company adding much to the revitalization of the Fenway neighborhood. Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

A view of Manhattan from the Time Out Market, Brooklyn

Back in Lisbon by train from Cascais we are about to enter the TimeOut Market food hall building and this is a sculpture over the main entrance dome.

Lisbon’s Mercado da Ribeira has been a landmark since 1882 when the market’s doors first opened in Cais do Sodré as a fish market.

The market is now" trendy" as it's home to a TimeOut Market.

The original fish market building was designed by engineer Ressano Garcia, who built a 10,000-square-meter building with an iron structure and installed a central corridor with water allowing fish to be cleaned and provided sanitation for the stalls.

Since the opening date, the market has undergone successive renovations and expansions. In 1893, a fire almost completely destroyed the market and it was eventually demolished in 1926.

The reconstruction of the market was completed in 1930 by architect João Piloto who included a dome and this nautical themed sculpture.

As we had an extra few days in Lisbon, we decided to take a look inside.

This was an interesting place. It's a large market building that has a good variety of small bars and restaurants inside. It was mighty busy - the football was on, but I think it would be pretty busy, regardless.

We'd already eaten and I'd say it wasn't really a place that we'd choose to sit down in, anyway. It was, as they say, more for a younger crowd!

This flower shop was in one half of the Time Out Market & food hall. This half had shops and fresh seafood and produce stalls. The food hall half had numerous restaurants. A few of the restaurants were Michelin Star rated. We only ate here one night and sampled food and drink from several restaurants. It was delicious! The food hall was very crowded for dinner. I love how colorful this flower stall was.

A quintessential Lisbon culinary experience captured on a tray from the vibrant Time Out Market (Mercado da Ribeira). This selection showcases the rich diversity of Portuguese seafood cuisine, confirmed by the branded plates. The generous array includes tender, beautifully roasted octopus (Polvo), likely prepared à Lagareiro-style, served over potatoes and seasoned with herbs and crumbs. Next, a portion of large, succulent shrimp (Gambas) is swimming in a rich, piquant, reddish sauce, accompanied by a flavorful yellow crumble (possibly farofa or cornbread). The meal is balanced by a side bowl of buttery white rice with cashews and a serving of crispy, square appetizers topped with a spicy sauce. This high-angle shot highlights the abundance, freshness, and vibrant colors of the freshly prepared dishes, cementing Time Out Market as a must-visit destination for food lovers in Lisbon.
