The keeping of time is not limited to timepieces made by people. There are also very reliable signs in the Natural world that operate with amazing regularity. This photo that I took of ferns emerging from the hard ground that Winter left, herald, like clockwork, the emergence of Spring Time. Of course, timepieces we make serve as a more immediate measure of time. Yet, so do the workings of Nature on a wider scale. When the ferns rise up as fiddleheads, you can rely on them as heralds of Spring. As the days lengthen, they uncurl into their beautiful fronds. But when the fiddleheads first push up from the ground, they are an event in time that you can rely on: Spring has arrived!

A drummer is first and foremost a timekeeper. As you see here, the drums keep the time without the drummer ;-)

The Timekeeper is like all of us...measuring his days and trying not to mix them up...feeling the weight of the collective months add up and all those moments in between small and larger. He can't forget any of them but pretends he does anyway sometimes. He always remembers in his dreams, though.

I ROBOT

This is one of the first books I ever read after leaving school and it took me down the long road of Science Fiction. Isaac Asimov, Philip K Dick, J G Ballard, Frederic Pohl, Jack Williamson, Robert A Heinlein and so many others.

So this is a little tribute to those imaginative folk who put pen to paper, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The little clock character was a birthday gift of many moons ago, he seemed appropriate to go on the shelf too. A bit cranky now, he doesn’t stand up by himself but leans in a very casual way and is a good timekeeper.

The next bit is a bit weird, I don’t own a copy of Asimov’s “I Robot” because it’s not in Penguin Books and I only collect Penguin Science fiction but I might make an exception and buy it along with the ‘Foundation' series at some time.

Hope some of you have enjoyed Sci/Fi too and have appreciated those writers and their imaginations. Here are a couple of other titles that I think have gone down in history as classic fiction.

It's time to forget about the past

To wash away what happened last

Hide behind an empty face

Don't ask too much just say

Cause this is just a game

Located at the north end of the Palace of Westminster, a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture, built in 1859.

More commonly known as Big Ben, its official title being the Elizabeth Tower, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.

The original architect for the clock tower was Augustus Pugin, not Charles Barry who designed the Palace. It stands 96 m in height.

The Palace of Westminster as a whole has been a Grade I listed building since 1970 and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.

“We know what happens to today when it becomes yesterday...It waits for them. . . the timekeepers of eternity. Always following behind, cleaning up the mess in the most efficient way possible—by eating it.”

Kayseri, Turkey

The Clock Tower is located in Republican Square in the center of the city. It was built in 1919. It has a square-plan. There is a small room near the tower which was used as the clock room for the timekeeper of prayers. There are four clocks on all four sides of the tower. There are two windows and an entrance on the northern side of the small room and one window on each side of the room.

The door and windows are arch-shaped and have a triangular- ornament on the front. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk addressed the people here when he came to Kayseri.

Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London[1] and is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower as well.[2][3] The tower is officially known as Elizabeth Tower, renamed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 2012; previously, it was known simply as the Clock Tower.

When completed in 1859, it was, says clockmaker Ian Westworth, “the prince of timekeepers: the biggest, most accurate four-faced striking and chiming clock in the world.”[4] The tower had its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009,[5] during which celebratory events took place.[6][7]

A British cultural icon, the tower is one of the most prominent symbols of the United Kingdom and is often in the establishing shot of films set in London 157.

The Piazza del Duomo in Orvieto, as it's easy to tell from the name, clearly owes its existence to the Duomo. In the town of Orvieto, all roads lead to this piazza, just as all visitors to the town naturally turn their footsteps along the Via del Duomo that flanks the square's west side, towards the majestic cathedral that towers over every house and palazzo on the square. In fact, much of the piazza was built around the Duomo while it was being completed over a period of more than three hundred years.

The Maurizio Tower to the north of the square certainly was, with its funny little automated timekeeper and bell at the top built to mark the working day for workers building the Duomo. This tower is also an information point for tourists looking to learn about the MODO (the Museum of the Opera del Duomo of Orvieto) which is one of Italy's most precious cultural heritages.

Time is precious.

Wandering through the shops of Galerie Gallard, one is swept into a world where time folds gently upon itself. Antiques and rare curios whisper forgotten tales, each object a fragment of history waiting to be rediscovered. The ambiance—a graceful dance between Modernism and Art Nouveau—wraps the senses in stained glass light, delicate ironwork, and the silent poetry of elegance long past.
