Architectural ceramics have a long history in Islamic art. The walls, vaults, domes and floors of secular and religious buildings, particularly palaces, mausoleums, mosques, schools and shrines, were often lavishly decorated with polychrome ceramic tiles. Those on display here are lustre painted and display characteristic calligraphic, floral and zoomorphic designs. Dating from the medieval period, they were produced in Kashan and Sultanabad (now Arak), centres of Persian luxury ceramics. Transcending time and place, the pervasiveness of such motifs on all surfaces and media - from ceramics and glass, to wood, textile and painting - is a defining attribute of Islamic art.

The red hue in the water comes from tiles beneath the surface. There was a tile factory around this place.

Tiled mural decoration created by Gordon Cullen in 1958, located in a passageway leading from the Lower Precinct in Coventry (relocated from its original setting in more recent years). The images suggest the passage of time and images of Coventry's development, beginning with dinosaurs and culminating in images of buildings and forms of transport.

According to the guy at the counter, the middle store used to be a drugstore. You could tell that the room used to have a glass counter on three sides with the common area featuring the tiling.
The Edge Building was built in 1923 and is your typical small-town building: small shops on the first floor and apartments on the second. The first floor is occupied by a general store that sells groceries, beer, and various home and hardware items. Pretty cool.
