One of the tile murals on the outside of the Catalina Casino. I believe all the tile for the casino and most of the tile in public areas in Avalon was made by Catalina Pottery.
This is the home of Jose Fuster. He is known at the Gaudi of Cuba. His house is an amazing collection of fun and whimsy.
I glued all the tiles to the glass in this picture frame with clear silicone glue, so that the names would show. If you look in the lower left corner, I used a tile to sign the piece also.
This is to be given this weekend to the lay director of the retreat, as a special memory and thank you.

Central Library (1876-84, architect George Corson), built as the Municipal Buildings. Its lavish fittings include a tremendous ceramic display, with tiles made by Edward Smith & Co of Coalville on the walls of the staircases, corridors and many rooms. The most spectacular area is the original reading room, to the right of the entrance, whose walls and ceiling are entirely covered in Smith & Co tiles. The vaulted ceiling is faced with coloured hexagonal tiles, some of which are hollow and form part of the room’s ventilation system, and there is also a series of terracotta busts of literary figures, including Milton and Shakespeare, modelled by the London artist Benjamin Creswick.

Bathroom wall design - free view as cross or parallel.
Cross: carefully and deliberately cross any two of central tiles. The result is an image of the central tiles in 3D.
Parallel; put your face close to the monitor and look through the screen so that you are seeing one blurred circular object with each eye looking at adjacent tiles. Hold the circle and slowly move back allowing your brain time to focus on the screen without moving the orientation of the eyes. The result is an enlarged floating image in 3D.

Another view from the doorway into the bathroom. I am very happy with the silvery paint, white tiles and the mirror. It really is quite fitting for the craftsman house. Yay! I wanted it to look like it belonged with the 1927 house, but I love the idea of the great big mirror. I think it works. :)
The planned swap for the Buckeye Bash in Feb 2011 is a Inch Tile swap. I made these to see how I liked them. Not as much as I would have liked, but they might make an interesting bracelet - what do you think?
I wanted an apparatus that allows me to quickly reproduce patterns made by scattered balls in a tray that collects them in a grid. This attempt at making a latex envelope that would hold a vacuum was only slightly successful. The tray holds plaster, which would in turn be a mold for ceramics processes.
These are all printable tiles ideal for making Scrabble tile pendants, glass pendants and magnets.
