If you were lucky enough to be a wealthy citizen of Pompeii, your home or domus, might have had a beautiful floor like the one shown here. “Domus is a Latin word that means house. Domus were typically built around a central hall, or atrium, with suites of rooms grouped around it. The atrium was often square or rectangular and used for public activities and family functions, while the peristyle, or colonnaded court, at the rear contained the family's private living quarters. Domus could range in size from small houses to luxurious mansions and could also serve as a place of business and religious center. Grander examples may have multiple stories and lavish decorations like frescoes, fountains, and statues. Archeologists also found coins, thoroughbred horses with bronze and iron accessories, and well-preserved frescoes and murals of mythological characters.”

This week's Monday Weekly Photo challenge is "something that emphasizes a repeating pattern."

When I was here, I saw four generations of families. All have been coming here all their lives. To me, that's a pattern worth emphasizing. :-)

This is at the Chicago Cultural Center, where a wedding was going on down there. I wondered what the purpose of this very low window is.

Count was watching and waiting for Lindsey to come home. He has an incredible inner clock. I figure if he wasn't a cat, he would be an alarm clock. Sorry, crappy iPhone photo.

I looked up. Saw the mirror on the ceiling.

Got out my camera. I'm in the center.

My number was called soon after.

My second creation for Round 1.6 of the ABS Builder Challenge!

The sinful seed part was used a total of 10 times in this creation, 4 in the organ and 6 in the stained glass window.

Hope you enjoy!

The château was built between 1658 to 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV. Fouquet wanted nothing more than to impress his king. But this was before Versailles and instead of being impressed, Louis was jealous of the grandeur of Vaux le Vicomte.

Fouquet had recently been spared execution and, instead, exiled from France for what may have been trumped up charges brought by his political enemies. After viewing Fouquet's opulent château, Louis used his powers to commute a sentence to do the opposite and put Fouquet in prison for life!

St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church is a medieval Spanish monastery cloister which was built in the town of Sacramenia in Segovia, Spain, in the 12th century but dismantled in the 20th century and shipped to New York City in the United States. It was eventually reassembled at 16711 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, Florida, where it is now an Episcopal church and tourist attraction called Ancient Spanish Monastery. It is the oldest European-built structure in the Western Hemisphere.

This time you get to see them several times at once! Yay!

Abused and Abandoned Jungle Dogs.

Back Story .........................................

A few important things we need to discuss first.

Plan was to take the sidecar and a 20kilo bag of

kibble. That plan was changed at the last minute.

Why you ask ? Simple, it's all about safety, my safety !

As mentioned on more then one occasion Thailand is

rated the second most "Dangerous" roads in the world.

Only surpassed by war torn Libya ! Yesterday while out

gathering stuff for the run today, twice crazy drivers nearly

took me out. I might mention I'm driving the scooter/sidecar

with two big colorful windmills spinning like wild in order for

other drivers to always notice me ! Road construction and the

heat has made many drivers quite irritable causing loss of tempers, bad decisions and many conflicts ! Not Good !

So here's what I came up with for the new plan..........................

The 20 kilo dog food bag was split in half. Took a large plastic

bag and filled it up. Placed all the other stuff in the front basket

and under the seat. Now 10 kilos of dog kibble fits comfortably between my legs on the new bike. Much safer being able to weave in and around the crazy drivers. I'll get back to using the sidecar when the road construction is finished and the high temperature drops. Then the crazy drivers won't be so explosive and out of control.

OK, Now lets talk about this photo .................................................

Many of you have seen photos taken in this area from the past.

It's on the second floor at The Dog Palace , notice the Buddhas all lined up against the back wall.

The floor is tile and lots of fun for the dogs to play slip and slide. Their favorite game is "tag your it" which is always instigated by Mama ... ;-)~~~

Maybe 15-20 minutes is taken up with this activity, then it's time out with everybody flat on the floor .................................

Alright with that said there's one more very important item.

If you have been thinking about donating to this cause now

would be a great time to do it. Cupboards have been bare for

sometime and we sure could use some help.

Thanks goes out in advance to anyone willing to donate...... ;-)

Thank You.

Newscaster: "Oliver Queen is alive! The Starling City resident was found by fishermen in the North China Sea five days ago - five years after he was missing and presumed dead following the accident at sea which claimed the Queen's Gambit. Queen is the son of Starling City billionaire Robert Queen who was also on board, but now officially confirmed as deceased."

(In the hospital)

Doctor: "Twenty-percent of his body is covered in scar tissue. Second-degree burns on his back and arms. X-rays show at least twelve fractures that never properly healed."

Moira Queen (mother): "Has he said anything about what happened?"

Doctor: "No...he's barely said anything. Moira, I'd like you to prepare yourself. The Oliver you lost...might not be the one they found."

I'm quite pleased with how this one turned out! Make sure to check out the actual scene for comparison!

My Favorite Color

This week everything blue stood out to me: the sky, ginger jars at the antique mall, my couch, and more. In the midst of so much inspiration, I landed on my favorite blue tiled bathroom floor for a shoe selfie. I added a frilly blue skirt to the mix and I love how it turned out!

Oh...

Kodak Retina IIIC (ca. 1959, type 029) with f2 50mm Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon lens, Portra 400. Insanely great little camera... Zoom in and look at the people! Razor sharp, and that's just the 4k downsized version of this negative.

My 50mm Nikkor f1.8 prime does no better, and weighs probably 20 times more and is perhaps 20 times larger in volume too. In fact it must be said, the entire Retina IIIC is no more than twice the volume of the Nikkor lens alone, if that. I can comfortably stick the whole camera in my trouser pocket.

The Schneider Xenon lens even has meaningful DoF markings and an f22 stop (modern Nikkor primes only go to f16).

Progress?

Finally, a result from the MRI Lindsey had last week. The ligament that holds the knee cap in place split, and in turn, sent her knee cap to the outside of the leg. There are contusions on the bones as a result. SO.....the best, most permanent, long term fix is to have surgery to repair the ligament, and then physical therapy for 4 to 6 weeks. Surgery is scheduled for the end of July, but she’s allowed to bend the knee while wearing a hinged brace. Wish it could be done sooner, but at least there is a way forward.

This, too, shall pass.
