Picturesque medieval half timbered houses (Issigeac, France) - it's still early, when I start my walking tour into the peaceful, nice and quiet French village of Issegeac. Almost only guided by the sound of tjirping birds I enjoy my walk, a short break for a small coffee at the town square, untill noon my camera fills easily with lots of postcard type of photos. I complete my morning activity with an excellent lunch on the only wide terrace this village has. This is feels to me a magical day tof discovery somewhere in France, in this occasion a pearl of beauty by the name of Issegeac.

French colors for Josephine Baker (Parc Josephine Baker/France) - josephine Baker, at 30 november 2021 she merged with full honours into the colours of France for eternity. Among "Les Grands Hommes" honoured at the Pantheon Paris, mausoleum of France. Symbol of the French Resistance, symbol for so many people. Now wearing the French colours using the nice logo's found in the Music Hall of Chateau-des-Milandes. Overall a location where you can still see, hear but also feel her vibrant presence.

Josephine Baker (3 June 1906 - 12 April 1975) - a French-American dancer, singer, actress, civil rights activist, French Resistance member and the world's first black female superstar. For some time, Baker lived with her adopted children, an enormous staff and her fourth husband Jo Bouillon in Château-des-Milandes, enjoyed the estate garden and park along the river Dordogne. For years a luxurious life but she lost the castle in 1968 to unpaid debts. Today it's almost unreal to find at Château-des-Milandes so many authentic traces of her, still visible, just like she's still there.

Pantheon Paris (mausoleum of France) - after her death she was the only American-born woman to receive full French military honours at her funeral, Baker was interred at Monaco's Cimetière de Monaco. In 2021, nearly half a century after her death, President Emmanuel Macron granted her to be honoured at the Pantheon Paris, mausoleum of France, this in recognition of the fact that Josephine Baker's "whole life was dedicated to the twin quest for liberty and justice ". She's the first black woman who received this highest honour in France, and sixth of woman, now among "Les Grands Hommes" of France. Château-des-Milandes< (Est. 1489) - former manor mainhouse of the lords of Coumont owners of Chateau Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. The castle is renovated between 1900 and 1914, from 1940 inhabited and owned by Josephine Baker. Early morning walk in a French village (Issigeac, France) - it's still early, when I start my walking tour into the peaceful, nice and quiet French village of Issegeac. Almost only guided by the sound of tjirping birds I enjoy my walk, a short break for a small coffee at the town square, untill noon my camera fills easily with lots of postcard type of photos. I complete my morning activity with an excellent lunch on the only wide terrace this village has. This is feels to me a magical day tof discovery somewhere in France, in this occasion a pearl of beauty by the name of Issegeac.

It's a steap walk up-hill that leads to an excellent panorama to enjoy the surrounding landscape and rivers. It's like the village didn't change at all, the many traces show a long history back in time.

Le Manoir de Tarde - one of the historical structures in the upper town of La Roque-Gageac. It's a very nice area to walk in a more authentic area with lots of ancient houses, all constructed right below the huge rockformation above. Along the way some nice panoramas on the Dordogne river below. At the end of this road you'll find a very nice botanical garden, "Bambousaie de la Roque-Gageac", with lots of huge tropical plants like banana- and palm trees and a impressive bamboo forrest. Absolutely a good reason to visit this very nice French village.

Sarlat-la-Canéda - a very popular town in the Périgord Noir. Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France.The centre of the old town consists of impeccably restored stone buildings, with 77 protected monuments it's on the list of France's Tentative List for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Largely car-free with lots of narrow ancient streets and small stores, an absolute pleasure to walk through and to discover.

Wandering in the silent small streets of Limeuil surrounded by only old, medieval even older houses. It's a steap walk up-hill that leads to an excellent panorama to enjoy the surrounding landscape and rivers. It's like the village didn't change at all, the many traces show a long history back in time.

The almost fairytale garden and surrounding landscape of Château de Marqueyssac, it's a walk through a landscape with many faces and inspiring views. Every corner or bend is different. The surreal landscape with many boxwood trees, carefully pruned with great patience and dedication in many shapes, plays a game of depth, dimension, color, light and dark. In this size, unique and very special to see.

Château de Marqueyssac (17th-century) - a château and gardens located at Vézac on cliffs with spectacular panoramic views overlooking the Dordogne Valley. Build by Bertrand Vernet de Marqueyssac, Counselor to Louis XIV. The original garden à la française was attributed to a pupil of André Le Nôtre. Redesigned and restored by new owners during the 19th and second half 20th century into romantic and picturesque style gardens with nowadays more than 150,000 boxwood trees carved in fantastic shapes, terraces, alleys, linden- and cypress trees, stone pine and six kilometers of walks covering more than 22 hectare surrounding the chateau.

It's still a private property but open to the public since 1996 and one of the most visited garden in the Perigord region. Best know as "Jardins suspendus de Marqueyssac" (hanging gardens) or "Les Jardins de Marqueyssac", a National Historical Monument and one of the "Jardin Remarquable" of France.

Some of the houses date back some time but mostly all of the houses even much longer ago. Very nice and different facades present a different look around every corner. None of the buildings are fitted with visible modern items so you might forget the actual date and time now and then..

Limeuil - located at the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. Historically both commercially and strategically on the highways of trade. This region: was primarily a wine-producing area for subsequent delivery downstream to Bordeaux, on large, flat-bottomed "gabarres". A very nice historical village and on the list of the "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" most beautifull small villages.
