Long-Billed Curlew, feeding as the tide comes in. Shoreline park, Richmond, CA.

This is a photo of the reflection of the wharf and the evening sky in a tidal pool at Port Maitland Beach.

Egrets are formidable predators. This one snagged a baby thresher shark in the tidal flats of Tamales Bay. In this case, the predator was prey as it is for baby predators all around nature.

I had the pleasure of showing a fellow photographer from Holland around the coastline of the Moray Firth yesterday. It was great to see the place with fresh eyes when she pointed out compositions that she wanted to photograph that I had never noticed myself. I often photograph this scene but I never thought to climb up a little higher to get a different perspective on the area and take it all in. I loved the way I was able to catch the movement of the waves through this scene and keep Shitten Crag in the centre of the image. Everyday is a school day! This image was taken on the coastline of Portknockie in Morayshire, Scotland.

Great Egret.

Between 35 to 41 inches long with a wingspan of 4 fewet 7 inches. A large, all white heron with a yellow bill and black legs. In breeding plumage has long lacy plumes on back. In southern Florida, white form of the Great Blue Heron, known as "Great White Heron" is similar but larger with greenish-yrllow legs. Much smaller Snowy Egret has black bill and black legs with yellow feet.

The Great Egret can be found in both freshwater and salt marshes, marshy ponds and tidal flats.

They breed locally from Oregon south to western Mexico, from Minnesota to the Mississippi Valley and Southeast, and along the Atlantic Coast north to southern New England. They winter regularly north along the Pacific Coast to Oregon, the Southwest, Texas and the Gulf Coast states. On the Atlantic Coast, north to New Jersey. Also in tropical America and warmer parts of the Old World.

Dawn at Marsden Beach on the North East Coast. Some beautiful light and sea movement. A place definitely worth a return visit.

As ever thanks for viewing and have a great week.

The Wash

South Holland

In 2015, a new tidal gauge was installed in The Wash. It will help the Environment Agency measure tides, predict flooding and assess the impact of climate change more accurately.

it completes a national network of 44 gauges that record information about sea levels to provide more accurate forecasts.

The instrument is on a platform measuring approximately 2 meters across and 11 meters above sea level. It’s located 4km offshore in The Wash close to the port of Sutton Bridge.

Low tide brings new possibilities on my favorite beach in Del Haven, New Jersey.

During a recent visit to Logie Head to the east of Cullen in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, I took time out from my objective to get a couple of shots of the cliffs in my own style. This is one of the best spots along the Moray Firth for trad climbing and offers a range of challenges for beginners all the way up to some of the best climbers. This area is called the tidal zone, for obvious reason and features some of the more technical and challenging routes. The waves this day would make climbing even on the "dry" sections of rock almost impossible due to the amount of spray from the sea soaking the rocks like heavy rain.

Reynisfjara, Iceland.

This evening, the sea stacks at the Reynisfjara black beach got shrouded by surf’s mist. To make it even better, the sunset light reflected in a soft glow on the tidal lake behind the beach.

Another one from the archives. I took this at Miracle Beach, on Vancouver Island, a few years ago.

This image didn't show up on most peoples' activity feeds. I contacted Flickr support, but they weren't able to help yesterday. They said they would add me to the many other people who are having the same issue and try to resolve it. Hasn't this been going on for weeks now?
