Kel was sick so often this past year (he has a thyroid condition, though it's being managed and he's doing very well) that he now has a spanking new large-cat-size, two-door cat carrier. Not that he appreciates it of course!
I knit that carrier rug myself from huge (size 50) needles and many strands of eyelash yarn.
I took this photo when his cage was resting on top of the car while I prepared to carry both cats into the vet. We live deep in the woods so vet trips are his one chance to see built up areas, and his expression here really makes me laugh, his eyes are like saucers!
Identifying Thyroid Disease
Almost always higher levels of fatigue, mental fogginess and weight are thought to be symbols
of aging. However, for women, these symptoms may be due to an aging thyroid gland as well. Incidence of thyroid disease is more common than we think and the risk of a diseased thyroid increases with age. An underactive thyroid, also known as hypothyroidism, is observed to be five-fold in women compared to men and is incident in about 15% of women aged more than 65 years.
The function of the thyroid gland in our bodies is to produce hormones that affect the use of the energy that is produced. This, in turn, affects all the other major functions such as digestion, metabolism, mental clarity and heart rate. When a person is affected by thyroid disease, endocrinologists are forced to examine the whole body because, if left untreated, this disease can affect almost every organ in the whole body.

Spencer is taking thyroid medicine and we can already see that his hair is growing back. We even think he looks slimmer already, too. His gums have some weird infection - two biopsies later, we know it's not cancer, but our main vet and a specialist are stumped. We're all hoping more time on thyroid meds will take care of the infection, too. Until then, no tennis balls. So unfair!
If not because my Uncle Danny, my Thyroid problem could have gone worst and you will not see the better me the way you see me whenever I'm with you my dear friends...
