I was only able to capture one bolt and soon after we were engulfed in cloud and heavy rain with almost continuous flashing and crashing!
On the New England Highway just south of Uralla. This was a hideout for Fred Ward the bushranger known as Captain Thunderbolt

I finally managed to take some thunderbolt shots. I was trying each time there was a lightning storm, but this time I managed to take some shots.
Very, very frightening me.

Lyrics from bohemian rhapsody, I thought I'd finish up the rest of the lightning series right away.

'64 FORD Fairlane 500 THUNDERBOLT
Sporting a 427 cubic inch engine ! Thunderbolt was a 425hp 427 cid high rise engine. Reported horsepower was 425, however it was closer to 500 hp and rocketed these tiny Ford's to mid 11 second quarter mile times. The 427 engine featured 12.7:1 compression, two four barrel carburetors, and a special intake and camshaft. Air was fed into the engine through a ram air system with vents connected to unused head lamp entrances in the grill. Very unique headers were constructed that snaked around the suspension.

The roller coaster sits next to an empty abandoned lot. Coney Island has been losing a battle with urban decay for years. Nowhere is that more evident then on the Boardwalk during the off-season.
After a long period of hot and dry weather we had a major thunderstorn with floods of water and hailstones yesterday. I was really afraid that the windows would shatter. There was some devastation in our area, but we were lucky.

In beautiful winter weather, I took a walk on the Baltic coast from Schönhagen in the direction of Damp. I found this thunderbolt on the natural beach below the cliff. Thunderbolt is a fossilized inner skeleton of an extinct belemnite (cephalopod). They resembled today's squids in appearance, had 10 tentacles and an ink bag.
Sunset over Saint Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick. The moored boat is the Thunderbolt, that I captured in several other photos, including one on her way into port.
The beautiful Bohemian invaders
We were on one of our regular walks when a small bird caught my attention. I however quickly forgot all about the gold crest when I spotted this beauty in a nearby tree.
At Dunollie we saw about 14 but numbering over 17 they were soon to cause a sensation in nearby Oban.
This was clearly the highlight of our Autumn trip back home

Another image from the powerful storm we had a couple of weeks ago. Again taken from the safety of indoors from my laundry window!
I say safety, but apparently, in the same storm, someone in South Australia did get electrocuted inside their home when they flipped a light switch right at the moment of a lightning flash!
The brown tinge of smoke can be seen lower right where a local grassfire had been started by a strike. I believe there were as many as 40 to 50 grassfires in the south of our state that night.
