I finally managed to take some thunderbolt shots. I was trying each time there was a lightning storm, but this time I managed to take some shots.

Criar uma releitura das situações que fizeram parte da história da Força Aérea.

Carson Memorial Lookout located on "Thunderbolts Way", a road linking Glousester to Walcha, in New South Wales, Australia.

The road is named after a famous Australian bushranger, known as Captain Thunderbolt.

There is another panorama of this in my photosteam called "Heck of a View", that was taken on another trip, before the devastation on the landscape.

The fire went through these mountains causing road closures 12th February 2017... The fire was reported to be over 800 hectares in size, at that time.

We traveled this road on the 22nd February and there was still spot fires burning.

Some wildflowers in the foreground managed to survive the heat and smoke, although, not quite at their best. I guess that is the good Aussie survival instinct!

The roller coaster sits next to an empty abandoned lot. Coney Island has been losing a battle with urban decay for years. Nowhere is that more evident then on the Boardwalk during the off-season.

Two of the most successful US aircraft of WW2, P-47D Thunderbolt, closely followed by a P-51D Mustang - both in US Army Air Forces markings.

During the War, the USAAF allowed pilots to decorate and personalise their aircraft, as it helped with morale and aided visual identification. The US Navy, on the other hand, did not approve of such decoration, and it is unusual to see pictures of USN aircraft of the era with any non-official markings.

After a long period of hot and dry weather we had a major thunderstorn with floods of water and hailstones yesterday. I was really afraid that the windows would shatter. There was some devastation in our area, but we were lucky.

It wasn't an eventful storm. This was the best I could come up with this particular night.

Sunset over Saint Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick. The moored boat is the Thunderbolt, that I captured in several other photos, including one on her way into port.

Genoa, Italy. The storm was moving toward the Liguria. The sky was beginning to glow on the horizon, banks of clouds were approaching toward the promontory of Portofino. So, thunderbolts were not so well defined, flashes of light appeared in the sky. Atmosphere was probably guilty, given that it was very thick and warm. I would say that the Scirocco wind had done its part.

The lightning storm was moving toward the west. Suddenly a couple of lightnings fell off near the Barracuda beach; I heard a crazy thunder, I was on the beach and the dread was real. I took so many pictures during this sudden storm off the coast of Genoa, but I wanted upload the most fantastic and impressive one took during that night on the beach; I never imagined to photograph such a lightning like this.

Another image from the powerful storm we had a couple of weeks ago. Again taken from the safety of indoors from my laundry window!

I say safety, but apparently, in the same storm, someone in South Australia did get electrocuted inside their home when they flipped a light switch right at the moment of a lightning flash!

The brown tinge of smoke can be seen lower right where a local grassfire had been started by a strike. I believe there were as many as 40 to 50 grassfires in the south of our state that night.

Thunderbolts everywhere

A Fairchild Republic A-10C Thunderbolt seen during a demonstration at the Bluebonnet Air Show at Burnet Municipal Airport, Texas on March 18th, 2023.

Thunderbolt is the name, but you can see the flash only ;-)

In the last weeks are enough chances to capture flashes. So I tried it many times without so spectacular flashes like that one.

This capture was taken through a roof-light and it has rained a lot. If you have a close distance between the lens and the window, it is not so disturbing as expected.

In this try I also used the fish-eye lens to get more of the sky and the flashes. A wide-angle are not wide enough. Or you need to increase the distance between lens and window. Then the quality should be a critical issue if it is raining.

Hopefully you enjoy it.
