The Ford Elite is a personal luxury car produced for a single generation, from February 1974 to 1976, using the name Gran Torino Elite for its first model year only then simplified to just Elite for the following two model years, it was initially the top-of-the-line model of the Torino series.
Based on the Torino, the mid-size two-door coupe was intended to be a junior model to the Thunderbird designed to compete with the increasingly popular intermediate personal luxury class that included such vehicles as the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Buick Regal, Dodge Charger, Chrysler Cordoba and Mercury Cougar.
The Elite was a low investment design derived from the concurrent Mercury Cougar XR-7 with a mild front end restyling to resemble the Thunderbird with single round headlamps, eggcrate grille, different taillamps with a centre reflector, unique twin opera windows and large colour-keyed vinyl mouldings placed higher on the bodysides. The interiors were identical save for upholstery styles and minor trim.
The Elite name was dropped after 1976 as the Ford mid-size range was restructured for the 1977 model year, which Thunderbird was dramatically reduced in size and price for 1977 by moving its nameplate to the Torino-based LTD II platform. In effect, the Elite continued restyled and marketed under the more-recognized Thunderbird name

Unlike Tuesday, the sun was shining & today it was taking pictures, of passengers waiting for the 1205 to Moorgate, which was cancelled due to no Traincrew (must be a Bank Holiday coming up)!
In 2018, you have to travel long distances & hope that when you get there, that the special train, with it's pair of ETH "Duffs" is running on time or the "Tractor" & it's Class 315 arrives before sunset!!!

The first generation Thunbird (1955-57) was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 1954, going on sale as a 1955 model in October 1954 during its first two years it sold 31786 units. For 1957 the car was drastically restyled the front bumper was reshaped, the grille and the tailfins were larger and larger tail lights fitted. The spare wheel returned inside the boot and the Thunderbird logo moved from the tailto the wing. The normal engines were 0f 292 Ci and 312 Ci with an uprated 312 available, Sales for 1957 up until April 1958 were 21380 the first generations best sales year, in all 53166 first series engines were sold

The Fourth generation Ford Thunderbird (1964-66) came with more formal squared off styling. The standard 390 Ci 300 bhp engine reached the 0-60 mph in 11 seconds thanks to the cars increased weight although a top speed of 120 mph was possible. Though the optional 427 cu in (7000cc) did give the extra urge the Thunderbird required
For 1966, the 390-cubic-inch V8's power was increased to 315 bhp (235 kW). The larger 428-cubic-inch (7.0 L) V-8 became optional, rated at 345 gross horsepower
Available as a Hardtop, Convertable and Landau with the Sports Roadster available remained only available with dealer installed options and then only about 50 were sold. Entry price in 1964 and 1965 was $4486.Total sales for 1964 were 92465 units, the 1964 Thunderbird being the only year with THUNDERBIRD written on the front of the bonnet

The Republic F-84F Thunderstreak was initially designed as a swept-wing variant of the straight-wing F-84 Thunderjet. The first prototype Thunderstreak was created in 1949. The U.S. Air Force placed orders for the F-84F in 1950. But design and production issues delayed the flight of the first production model to 1952 and the F-84F not being declared operational until 1954. The production F-84F ended up differing significantly from the straight-wing F-84s. From 1954 through 1955 the Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force demonstration team, flew F-84Fs.
Unfortunately, engine failures and flameouts in heavy precipitation led the Air Force to initiate the operational phaseout of F-84Fs shortly after their introduction. The phaseout was completed in 1958. Increased tension associated with the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 resulted in reactivation of the F-84 fleet. Stress corrosion led to the retirement of the fleet from Air National Guard service in 1971.
This particular Thunderstreak (51-9501) was delivered to the U.S. Air Force in 1955. It served with the Air Force at bases in the United States through 1958. From 1958 through 1962 it was flown by several Air National Guard units. It served with the U.S. Air Force in France from 1962 to 1964. Then it finished its military service with the Air National Guard through 1970. Then the aircraft served as an instructional airframe at Western Michigan University as part of it aviation training program. The University briefly registered the aircraft as N5001, but it is unlikely that the aircraft ever flew under that registration.
In 1985, the Yankee Air Museum acquired the aircraft. The aircraft was displayed outside until restoration began in 2016. As part of the restoration, the plane was painted in a Thunderbirds livery with the goal of including the plane in the Museum’s permanent Thunderbirds exhibit. The flag decals on the plane represent the Latin American countries the Thunderbirds visited during their 1954-1955 international tour.

Built for the 2004 motion picture Thunderbirds as Lady Penelope's car, the car is fully functioning, except it cannot fly, and it ran at the 2004 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car has six wheels and a glass canopy, which is now tinted,. In the film the boot panels would open to expose the gas turbine engine before flight and the wings would extend from the under-carriage. During flight the rear wheels retract into the body. Skis for going over snow are also added. The bullet proof run flat tyres are fitted with studs for extra traction. The central passenger compartment doubles as an emergency life raft for rescues at sea
