I love it when my stash of thread gets low enough that I can order more. In this batch, of course I got more gray and black, but also a super deep Graphite, lots of yellows and golds and oranges.
I took the entire collection out of a bin and lined them all up on my studio shelf for inspiration.
Dad is still okay, I guess, but he’s getting a little more confused and forgetful. Staying with him full-time has been such a blessing for both of us. I have been keeping busy helping Dad do things that he just can’t do. Now that they are just about done, I feel he’s starting to let go. There’s not as much for him to think about. He read the whole paper today, but couldn’t get past one page in his book that he wants to read. Sometimes during the day he is very lucid, and sometimes he just sits and stares into space, then talks out loud to himself. His medication hasn’t been increased, so the reason may be the slow progression of cancer or just plain getting old. I hope Dad has a good time at our family get together in two weeks to help him celebrate turning 91.
As I care for my dad and watch him slip away, I can’t help crying. He means everything to me. As the time gets closer I am not going to write about it…I don’t think, for fear the tears will short out my laptop.
For now, I’m trying to keep myself busy with my own unfinished projects, just to keep my mind occupied. It’s getting harder to get out to take my picture of the day. So, try as I will to be creative in this house and yard.
So far, I have finished one project, a holiday table centerpiece. Maybe I’ll try to take a picture of it on another day.
Today I have been working on gifts for the Hospice nurse, night nurse, social worker. Maybe tomorrow I’ll show you the finished project.
Threading pattern (Finnish Twill from the Davison book) is taped on the castle. While I initially thought suspending the cross was a cruel joke, I now think it is brilliant.
I'm taking the advanced filet crochet class at CrochetVille. This is the results after week one :)
The one on the left was really tough, it uses blocks for increase and decrease. I struggled a lot, but got the hang of it after a lot of unravels!
The one on the right was much easier, it's open mesh increases and decreases.
Neither one is blocked yet.

Sketching with thread....! I tried to use a continuous line but the thread broke! Experimenting with using watercolor.
At an auction I found a big bag full of colour coordinated sewing threads. Of course, I had to get them because of the wonderful colour combos!
The company I keep, from a few years ago, but still very much present. Now they are on my working table, always looking at me...

Wales has a much celebrated tradition of creating both utilitarian and decorative textiles of distinctive design. From power-loomed blankets to hand-stitched quilts, textiles are a key part of Welsh visual culture and history.
Whilst ‘A Darker Thread’ takes this heritage as its starting point, twelve contemporary artists, designers and makers have been invited to exhibit work which subverts these expectations.
Exhibitors have been selected for their challenging, confrontational or unpredictable approach to making thoroughly contemporary work which confidently cross boundaries of art, design and craft. A variety of making processes are exemplified, but all make use of thread in some form.
The curious, provocative, intense, fragile works explore broad-ranging themes of empowerment, loss, language, internal landscapes, memory and gender to name but a few. Some work might still feel comfortably familiar through its materiality or typically ‘Welsh’ colour palette of black, ecru and red; much hopefully, does not.
The other 36 skeins of embroidery thread that I finally got around to wrapping up. This time it only took 2.5 hours!

Western Blindsnake (a.k.a., thread snake) caught on August 3rd in Phoenix, Arizona and being held by me.
Continuing to use items plucked from storage as I organize my attic as subjects for photography.
Today it's small, Japanese spools of metalic thread lying upon a length of Tsumugi silk.
Note: You might wonder "why' I have such items. The answer is that they are just really cool, old, handmade things that no longer have a place in our fast paced world....but were once a common day item in the textile industry before everything shifted to plastics. They are very organic in that way....
This rack shows the gold shades available in Kreinik metallic threads. Who knew there were so many options for gold threads!?
