4/27/2011 Photographer Martin J. Wells of Bathgate, West Lothian, has won Second Place for March in the prestigious photography contest sponsored by BetterPhoto.com, the site's founder, Jim Miotke, announced Wednesday.

More than 17000 entries were submitted to the online photography contest, which attracted contestants from around the world and featured 10 separate categories.

Wells's stunning image, "Red Thread", garnered top honors after being submitted in the Details & Macro category.

an interactive art exhibit in which you're confronted with a pegboard full of personal statments ranging from mundane to salacious, take a length of yarn, and wrap it around a series of pegs that apply to you. you don't have enough string to cover every applicable statement, so you end up having to choose the ones that describe you best.

as more people participate, the wall becomes a jumbled mess of confessions and connections, weaving in and out of each other and ending unexpectedly.

the effect is surprisingly cool.

I think this may be a thread-waisted wasp. Played with the previous image in Photoshop, and had far more control than with Picnik, not surprising...

Silk thread roti - the threads made of caramelised sugar and then eaten in a roti - is a desert created in Ayutthaya. A mix of Indian subcontinent and Thai cuisines, the dish here was made by a Muslm family living in Ayutthaya and I was told that it is typically sold in the street by Muslim vendors.

The colours can vary - the green sugarsilk is coloured by use of the pandan/pandanus leaf.

I saw Chinese thread books online and fell in love. I was doing a zentangle project…and decided to combine the two. Origami and I are not the best of friends…yet…so I had to make SO many boxes to get what I wanted…and ended up with 3 books. The boxes open in different ways and are stacked on top of each other to hold thread, pattern pieces, small scissors, buttons…etc. SO much fun!

American Thread Building by Michael Daddino

William B. Tubby, 1894-96. Once a wool exchange, home to the American Thread Company, and an exhibition space where Keith Haring painted a (recently rediscovered) mural...all this history pales next to the incandescent fact that Naomi Campbell once lived here.
