Eudorcas thomsonii
a fairly small and elegant gazelle. It is one of the fastest land animals.
These are mainly grazers and prefer cropped grasses . So they have benefitted in the Serengeti/Masai Mara area from the increase in the number of Wildebeest. When needed these gazelle will also browse.

This Thomson's gazelle saw a hyena. She left her fawn hiding in the grass, walked slowly about twenty meters away to the left, made herself visible to get the hyena's attention and make the hyenas look in another direction. Suddenly she ran to her fawn and both she and the fawn zigzagged at high speed about 100 meters in another direction, this time to the right and the hyena was maneuvered away. Thomson's gazelle mom was still attentive, and the fawn was then hungry.
These small gazelles, named for researcher Joseph Thomson, have light-brown coats with dark stripes running down their sides, a white patch on their rumps extending underneath the tail, and ridged horns that curve backward. Females may have shorter, smoother, and slimmer horns than males or none at all. Grant’s gazelles are sometimes confused with Thomson’s. However, Thomson’s is distinguished from Grant’s by its smaller size and the white patch on its rump. On Grant’s gazelles, the patch always extends above the tail. Seen at the Thomson Marsh in Kelowna. She is well camouflaged in the reeds. She was the only one on this section of pond when I was there. The rest of her friends were all over the road, blocking the cars.
Thomson's gazelles, which are easily disguised by the small size and the single black stripe down each side, are among the smallest and the fastest of the antelopes. Here we have a male, a female and a fawn. Grant's gazelles are a good bit bigger, and the males have much longer horns that curve backward.
