Gary Thomas (born June 10, 1960) is an American jazz saxophonist and flautist from Baltimore, Maryland. He is a member of Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition band and has worked with John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Jim Hall, Dave Holland, Greg Osby, Wayne Shorter, Ravi Coltrane, Cassandra Wilson, Wallace Roney, Miles Davis, Steve Coleman, as well as numerous other premier jazz musicians. He currently serves as Director of Jazz Studies at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore.

2021 – Da gibt es viel nachzuholen

STATEMENT
Hagenow/gc. Das gerade vergangene Jahr 2020 war – in so ziemlich jeder Hinsicht – ein außergewöhnliches Jahr, das uns alle vor enorme Herausforderungen gestellt hat und auch noch immer stellt.
Die weltweite Ausbreitung des neuartigen Coronavirus hat seit März auch unser Handeln in Hagenow in hohem Maße beeinflusst. Es kam alles anders als erwartet. Ab nun hieß es, alles Mögliche dafür zu tun, um die Ausbreitung des Coronavirus zu verlangsamen beziehungsweise einzudämmen. Kontaktbeschränkungen sowie die Einhaltung von Hygienemaßnahmen standen von nun an auf der Tagesordnung. Dies blieb nicht ohne Folgen für das soziale, gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Leben in unserer Stadt. Und das ausgerechnet im Jubiläumsjahr „650 Jahre Stadt Hagenow“! Geplante Veranstaltungen rund um dieses Jubiläumsjahr mussten aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie zum Schutz der Gesundheit der Bevölkerung abgesagt werden. Ebenso das Altstadt- und Schützenfest sowie der Weihnachtsmarkt.
Doch trotz vieler Einschränkungen und Entbehrungen haben wir das zu Ende gehende Jahr gemeinsam gut gemeistert. Doch nun ist es auch wichtig, nach vorne zu blicken. Für uns heißt das: Blick auf das Jahr 2021! Der baldige Einsatz eines Corona- Impfstoffes ist ein gutes Signal und lässt darauf hoffen, dass wir im nächsten Jahr wieder so etwas wie Normalität haben werden. Mit dieser Zuversicht gehe in das neue Jahr 2021, denn wir haben so einiges nachzuholen. Ich denke da nur an Festveranstaltungen anlässlich des Jubiläumsjahres 2020.
Auch Großprojekte, wie die Errichtung eines neuen Hortgebäudes und der Neubau der Europaschule am Campus Kietz werden im vor uns liegenden Jahr und noch in den Folgejahren als Investitionen in die Zukunft unserer Kinder wegweisend sein. Ich hoffe sehr, dass wir im neuen Jahr 2021 unser Hauptaugenmerk wieder verstärkt auf all die Dinge richten können, die in 2020 nicht möglich waren.

Biographical History: Horace Dalton (1899-1956) was born at Dunwich (Goompee), North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) to Thomas and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Dalton (nee Parker) and was working as a farmer when he volunteered to serve with the first AIF in May 1918. He was allotted to the 4th General Reinforcements for Egypt and embarked on board the troop ship 'Port Sydney' in August 1918 arriving in Egypt four weeks later. Dalton was assigned to the 11th Light Horse Regiment and joined them in the field when they were encamped near the village of Zgarta, Libya, in November 1918. While news of the armistice had been already been received, troops were still required for garrison duties, remaining in the field for some months and later at Moascar where the Light Horse regiments remained on duty to quell any further unrest associated with the Egyptian uprising.
Dalton returned to life on Minjerribah as an oysterman, and married Elizabeth Kearns. His parents and some of his siblings had been removed from the island and placed in Aboriginal Missions in the 1920s, as was Horace and his family, to Taroom. Horace was able to return to the coast in the 1930's once again earning a living from the sea. He died at a relatively young age of 57 leaving behind his young son Ken, and was unceremoniously buried at the Ipswich Cemetery. In later years his life and service have been honoured by the RSL and his community, his grave is marked with the Rising Sun for all to observe and commemorate.

"On stilts here in the Gulf of Mexico, a house was built in 1959 by [Henry Taylor for] Philip and Margaret Thomas at the end of a 300-foot boardwalk. At the time, they owned the large Thomas Hotel in Gainesville.
"Col. George Walton came to Cedar Key to spend a weekend in the Island Hotel, and instead wound up spending years in this house, which he called the "Shark Tooth School". Walton wrote and published several books, including The Wasted Generation and The Tarnished Shield. It was partially destroyed by Hurricane Elena on Labor Day, 1985." It is now one of the most photographed places on the island."

According to an undated newspaper clipping in a notebook entitled Cedar Key History in the Cedar Key Library, "Meet Author George Walton..." Col. George Walton resides in the most frequently sketched & photographed site in Cedar Key, the house on stilts, 'Shark Tooth Shoal.' Reached by the 300 ft boardwalk, the house & it's occupant attract visitors, sightseers, photographers, artists, and autograph seekers in such numbers that Walton has posted a sign on the gate about midway up the walk: 'Please - no visitors before 12 noon."

Saint Thomas is an island in the Caribbean Sea and with the islands of Saint John, Saint Croix, and Water Island a county and constituent district of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), an unincorporated territory of the United States. Located on the island is the territorial capital and port of Charlotte Amalie. As of the 2010 census, the population of Saint Thomas was 51,634 about 48.5% of the US Virgin Islands total. The district has a land area of 31.24 square miles.
In 1917, St. Thomas, Saint John and Saint Croix were purchased by the United States for $25 million in gold, as part of a defensive strategy to maintain control over the Caribbean and the Panama Canal during the First World War.

Sir Thomas Adams, 1st Baronet (1586 – 24 February 1667/1668) was the Lord Mayor of the City of London and a Member of Parliament for the City of London from 1654-1655 and 1656-1658.
Adams was born in 1586, at Wem, Shropshire, educated at Shrewsbury School and admitted as a sizar to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University in 1600.[1] He received his BA in 1605-6, and became a draper in London.
In 1609, he was elected as sheriff, giving up his business, and applying himself to public affairs. He then served as Master of the Drapers' Company, sat as an alderman on the City of London Corporation, and was president of St Thomas' Hospital, which he probably saved from ruin, by discovering the frauds of a dishonest steward. In 1645, he was elected Lord Mayor of the City of London, showing unusual disinterestedness, declining the financial advantages usually made by the sale of places which become vacant.
His loyalty to Charles I was so well-known that at the start of the English Civil War his house was searched by the republican party, hoping to find the king there. The next year he was committed to the Tower, and detained for some time. However, at length he became the oldest alderman upon the bench, and was consequently dignified with the honourable title of father of the city. Sir Thomas sat as an MP for London from 1654-1655 and 1656-1658.
His affection for the king was such that during the exile of Charles II, he remitted him £10,000.[2] On the restoration of the King Sir Thomas, then 74 years of age, was deputed by the city to accompany General Monck to Breda in the Netherlands, to accompany the king home. For his services the king knighted him at the Hague; and soon after the restoration advanced him to the dignity of a Baronet, on the June 13, 1661.
In his latter years he was afflicted with kidney stones, which hastened his death. After his death a stone was taken from his body, weighing 25 ounces (1.5 lb, or 0.7 kg), which is preserved in the laboratory at Cambridge. He seemed perfectly prepared for death, often saying "Solum mihi superest sepulchrum" ("All my business is to fit me for the grave"). His funeral sermon was preached by Dr. Hardy, at St Katherine Cree Church, before his children and many of his relations. He was buried in a barrel vault excavated under the altar of St Mary and St Margaret Church, Sprowston, Norfolk, and a large marble monument was erected above it. His descendants enjoyed the title down to Sir Thomas Adams, who died a captain in the Royal Navy in 1770.
Renowned as a public benefactor, in his lifetime Sir Thomas gave his house at Wem as a free-school to the town, and endowed it; he founded a Arabic professorship at Cambridge in 1643, and paid for the printing of the Gospels in Persian, and for sending them into the east. Despite suffering great losses in his estate, he left legacies to the poor of many parishes, to hospitals, and ministers' widows in his will.

Sir Thomas Adams, 1st Bt. was born circa 1586. He was the son of Thomas Adams and Margaret Erpe. He married Anne Mapsted, daughter of Humphrey Mapsted, before 1616. He died on 24 February 1667/68 at Ironmonger Land, Fenchurch Street, London, England. He was buried at Sprowston Hall, Norfolk, England. His will was probated in April 1668.
Sir Thomas Adams, 1st Bt. was Draper at London, England. He held the office of Alderman of Portsoken ward between 1639 and 1641. He held the office of Sheriff from 1639 to 1640. He held the office of Alderman of Billingsgate between 1641 and 1646.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of London from 1645 to 1646. He held the office of Alderman of Cornhill between 16 September 1646 and 7 April 1647. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for London from 1654 to 1655. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for London between 1656 and 1658. He suffered greatly as a Royalist, and was said to have remitted as much as £10,000 to King Charles II. He purchased Sprowston Hall, Norfolk. He was invested as a Knight in May 1660. He was created 1st Baronet Adams, of Sprowston Hall, Norfolk [England] on 13 June 1660. He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.

Thomas W. Reynolds, the efficient Clerk of Neosho County, and a well known resident of Erie, was born in Greene County, Ohio, July 29, 1839. His paternal grandfather was a farmer of Allegheny County, Pa., and in Greene County, Ohio, bought a farm for his son, William Reynolds, the father of our subject, who removing thither, married Miss Eliza Mitchell, daughter of John Mitchell. Both parents were natives of Allegheny County. The maternal grandfather became the owner of eleven hundred acres of land in Ohio. William Reynolds followed farming in Greene County upon one hundred and seven acres of good land until his death in 1840. His widow then went to live with her father, but afterward married Rev. William Davidson, of Hamilton, Ohio, a minister of the United Presbyterian Church.
The subject of this sketch was reared in his mother’s home, and educated in Hamilton, Ohio, attending the high school. At the age of eighteen he determined to seek a home in the west, and went to Nebraska, locating in Nemaha County. In the spring of 1860 he crossed the plains to Pike’s Peak, Colo., and while en route had a fight with the Indians. There he engaged in prospecting and mining until the following winter, when he returned to Hamilton, Ohio and when President Lincoln issued his call for seventy-five thousand volunteers he enlisted, on the 19th of April, 1861, in Company F, Third Ohio Infantry.
Mr. Reynolds was in the service for three years and three months, and was mustered out in June, 1864. For the last year and a-half he served as Orderly Sergeant of his company, and acted as its Commander for thirteen months. He spent the first season in the Army of the East, participating in the battle of Tiger Valley, and afterward went to Bowling Green, thence to Nashville, and on to Murfreesboro and Huntsville. In the fall they joined Buell’s army and participated in the battle of Perryville. Later Rosecrans assumed command, and they went to Nashville and participated in the battle of Stone River or Murfreesboro. They were then detailed with the Fifty-first and Seventy-third Indiana and Eightieth Illinois regiments to go on a raid under Col. A. D. Straight. After a hard battle near Rome they were captured by General Forest and turned over to the home guard of that place, by which they were searched and robbed and then sent to Richmond and Atlanta. They were afterward placed in Belle Isle Prison, but in a short time were parolled and taken to Camp Chase. Not long afterward Mr. Reynolds joined his regiment in Cincinnati, and went to Nashville. Later he did guard duty, and subsequently was sent to Chattanooga, when he was at the expiration of his term of service. He then went to Camp Dennison, Ohio, where he was mustered out.
After the war, Mr. Reynolds remained in Hamilton, Ohio, for about a year in the employ of the Government, and then went to Gibson County, Ind., where his father had entered one hundred and sixty acres of timberland. On the 8th of February, 1867, he was united in marriage with Miss Jane M., daughter of Elijah Coulter, a miller and farmer of Gibson County. Unto them have been born ten children, all of whom are still living. Two of the number were married, while the others are yet with their parents.
In the midst of the forests of Indiana Mr. Reynolds hewed out a farm, upon which he made his home for three and a-half years. He then sold out in September, 1870, and came to Neosho County, locating in Canville Township, and entering one hundred and sixty acres of land on section 24 from the Government. He now has two hundred and sixty acres, all under a high state of cultivation and well improved. He carries on general farming and stock-raising, and in his dealings has met with good success.
Mr. Reynolds exercises his right of franchise in support of the Republican party. In the fall of 1889 he was elected to the office of County Clerk, and entered upon its duties the following January. On the expiration of his two years’ term he was again elected, and is the present incumbent. For three terms he served as Township Trustee, and was Clerk of the Township Board for several years. For two terms he served as Justice of the Peace, and has been a member of the School Board for a number of years. He takes quite an active part in Grand Army work, and is a charter member of Earltown Post No. 206, G. A. R. Mr. Reynolds had led a busy and useful life, and has ever been found true to the trust reposed in him.
