Guy's and Thomas' were my second hospitals I worked at in London after The Royal London and St Bart's. I was head hunted for the Clinical PET Centre "Positron Emission Tomography" following the completion of my MSc in Nuclear Medicine and Applied Radiation Science. PET is novel imaging modality utilizing onsite created radionuclides from our own cyclotron reacted with biologically active pharmaceuticals and then introduced into patients expressing a multitude of pathology's mapping it's distribution and deviation from the norm. I also was a patient here following two lots of heart surgery, needless to say, I know the place well!

'When the steamer had slowly backed out, and John MacAlpine had thrown off the hawser [rope], we began to feel that our once powerful clan was now represented by a feeble old man and his granddaughter, who, together with some outlying kith-and-kin, myself among the number, owned not a single blade of grass in the glen that was once all our own.' Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1865, this painting was accompanied in the catalogue by this paragraph which was probably written by the artist himself. Such emigrant scenes were common occurrences in mid 19th-century Scotland when, partly as a result of the Highland Clearances, the land could no longer support the people. Emigration, often forced, to places such as America and Canada, was the only hope of survival.

" Thomas Point Light ", Unframed image size, 11x18 inches. A signed and numbered print from a painting by artist Harry L. Richardson of Thomas Point Shoals Lighthouse, the most famous lighthouse in Maryland. Built in 1875, this lighthouse is still located at the mouth of the South River near Annapolis, Maryland in the Chesapeake Bay. One of the last screwpile lighthouses manned by the U.S. Coast Guard, the light was automated in 1986. This lighthouse is now owned by the city of Annapolis, Md. and three other partners.

Robert Tait’s painting “A Chelsea Interior” exhibited at 1858 RA summer exhibition, at the home of Thomas and Jane Carlyle. G.F. Watts commented on the work ‘ This wrong perspective ….”the modern error.’ Tait’s painting shows what went wrong in Victorian painting when photographic material was not used wisely.
i went to the Thomas Carlyle house in Chelsea yeasterday to see for myself. These are my photos. The house is a must for anybody interested in The Victorian period and indeed Thomas Carlyle whose views may be thought of as more controversial in C21.

Built in 1841 by Samuel Edison, the house was the birthplace of American inventor Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931), born on February 11, 1847. Milan, Ohio is a charming little town with a number of well-preserved 19th century architecture. It was once an important grain port on the canal system of the Great Lakes. The town is located between Sandusky and Norwalk in southern Erie County.
I built this mainly for my kids, although it's just to show them and not necessarily to let them play with it :-)
Thomas uses 6 medium BBB drivers. He is powered by a medium PF motor. There is a custom lead weight inside Thomas so that enough friction is generated at the wheels.
Unfortunately, this amount of weight is a bit too much and he moves rather slowly when pulling cars and going through curves.
I'm contemplating cutting groves into the flanged wheels so that I can put o-rings on them. Or, I might "un-power" Thomas and instead put a motor into Annie or maybe a small, custom boxcar.
Annie and Clarabel are the "tenders". They hold the PF receiver and 6x AA battery box. These ladies are not finished yet. I have some old/new gray and also old/new brown issues to sort out. I also need to make some custom stickers for them.
Thomas' face is a custom sticker. I did this rather quickly on some cheap custom sticker paper (w/ glossy finish) and didn't take the time to match the grays. I'll have to redo this in the near future to get him looking right.

I'm planning to build Percy next. I have the parts (green slopes, etc.) but lack the time :-)
