“Inner Sense”, 2011
These images were taken during a residential yoga course in the Himalayas, India, during the summer of 2011.
The subjects were asked to meditate, focus their thoughts on their personal mantra and select the focal point in the space between their eyebrows (the third eye).
It is not easy to depict belief or the act of faith, so, as the photographer or ‘seer’, I wanted to reflect the idea of seeing the “inner self” during meditation, using the concept of the ‘third eye’ (the space between the eyebrows), with the camera as my third eye.
The images are intentionally repetitive, as they reflect a state of contemplation. They are also seductive, as they encourage the audience to stare at the subject and try to guess their thoughts.
The images show the subjects meditating, up to the point just before they opened their eyes.
This is a very special stone from South Africa, The healing properties are for the gentle soul. It is very helpful for anyone draw to this stone as it will allow one to work thru any dis-ease in one's life on a very deep level . the color is a rich purple associated with the third eye charka. This sugilite is hard to find in good quality & also carved ! I just listed it in our shop @ crystalcreek.etsy.com
We've had lizard weather lately!
*Sigh* It's been quite warm, a record-setting 82 degrees for Santa Barbara yesterday.
This is looking down on a little Blue-belly Lizard aka Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis) looking for prey on the sandstone outcrop in our canyon that still holds some moisture from December rains. (San Marcos Pass, 7 January 2015)
You can see the "third eye" that these lizards have. It's that small light-brown disk in the center of my photo, towards the apex of the triangle behind the lizard's eyes. It's also called a "parietal eye" or "pineal eye". It appears to have a lens. As I understand, this third eye distinguishes light and dark, and has something to do with controlling body temperature and daily rhythms. It's associated with the pineal gland, which we have too, buried deep in our heads. It's so interesting that Descartes picked the pineal gland (our third eye, somewhat buried) as the seat of the soul.
Lizard weather! This Blue-belly Lizard aka Western Fence Lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis) was posed for just a moment on the exposed root of an oak tree. The lizard is shedding - you can see a flap of old skin behind its head. It did get into the mid-70s today - that's warm for the end of December, and lizards and butterflies both were out. I only see juvenile lizards in winter. I reckon it takes longer for the BIG critters to warm up than the small ones. It's simple geometry. A lizard that's twice as long has four times the surface area to collect sunlight but eight times the bulk to warm up. (Think of cubes.) I guess that's why cold-blooded lizards don't get too big. You can also see the "third eye" that these lizards have behind the lizard's real eyes - I'll make a note, see this photo for some info. (San Marcos Pass, 28 December 2017)
We're having lizard weather instead of rainy winter weather. We are having an unprecedented "winter drought" without our usual winter rains so far - we haven't had an inch of rain since last March. I'm worried - what if the rain . . . doesn't come??
