ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- When engineers from the U.S. Army Research Laboratory brainstormed on how to improve Soldier lethality, the idea of a third arm seemed like something that might help.

Mechanical engineer Dan Baechle carefully planned out a device that doesn't need batteries, is lightweight and can evenly distribute the load of a heavy weapon.

"It can help stabilize the weapon and take the load off of their arms," he said. "It's made from composite materials to make it as light as possible, but also to ensure the range of motion that Soldiers need."

Stills that move you.

For this project I took a picture of my brother and a picture of a lego building. My first picture I took wa my brother standing under an umbrella. I took this picture outside of my house when my brother and I were walking around. When He lifted up the umbrella as it was raining I saw a perfect opportunity for a picture. I shot this with a shutter speed of 1/25 and an aperture of 18. In Photoshop, I found that this photo was too dark, and the umbrella did not stand out as much as I would like. Because of this, I used Camera Raw to lighten the umbrella and the overall scene. I used Photoshop to bring out the reflections of the puddles in the background as well as make the concrete stand out. I personally really like this picture because of the fact that the overall color is dark but the umbrella is brighter. I also like the one person off to the side instead of centered.

My vertical picture is a piece of a Lego castle made by a friend of mine. I chose this picture because i felt that even though it is simple, it is full of interesting details. I shot this with an aperture of 3.5 and a shutter speed of 1/10. I do not like this picture as much, but I feel that this is a great picture.

Overall i really enjoyed this project. I enjoyed learning how to use the grids on my camera and that pictures do not always need to be centered.

I love this picture but I wish I hadn't moved so close into him and cut off the bottom of the guitar.

I took this as I was waiting for the bus after seeing the US Bank Fireworks Display.

When I got home from work, the sun was still up, so I worked in the garden for a bit and harvest some Peas and greens for a salad. This is our biggest harvest so far :)

There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.

We are making photographs to understand what our lives mean to us.

The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.

The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.

I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn’t photograph them.
