This day we learned about the Rule of Thirds. It's serious business, and it helps tell more of a story.

I couldn't get on with the Chromebook so took it back and now have a Dell laptop.

We kicked back and cracked open the art of beer at #ThirdThursMIA: Beerfest.

We DESIGNED our own bottle labels inspired by Summit’s new look by Duffy & Partners.

We RAISED A GLASS of limited edition Summit beer infused with Dogwood coffee.

We DISCOVERED drinking vessels in the collection.

We GOT DOWN to the fun indie soul sounds of Black Diet.

We DITCHED our beer goggles for “The Look of Love.”

We TOOK IN a “Walking Book” performance by artist Stan Shellabarger.

We GOT CREATIVE with The Growler: putting a new spin on old cover art, plus submitting an illustration inspired by the Homebrew Recipe for a chance to get published.

And we DRANK IN the history of beer in Minnesota with a book-signing of Land of Amber Waters.

Ted Lick Administration Building Construction

Before leaving work at USX at 2pm, I could look out thew window and see that Fifth Avenue was lined with cops shoulder to shoulder as the scheduled parade went by. Leaving the building on my bike I was redirected by fencing up to Grant Street where I asked an officer what my chances of getting through to the Smithfield Street bridge. She said that I couldn't get through at all. I was apparently trapped between the paraqde and the Secret Service Exclusion zone. Was my only option to ride up into the hill district?

I didn't think so.

I rode up a block as Sixth Street curved around and met up with Fifth, which was clear at that point. Rode Fifth down to Ross again and turned left. At Third avenue I stopped and asked the officers standing there if I could get through.

"On a bike? Sure. No problem."

Most of these fabrics came from the last two studio sales. (Not the pink bikes and stripes, though!)

I love the bright color combination--hope Miss Abigail does, too.

One of 81 panels from the Apocalypse sequence in the east window.

The great east window of York Minster is currently being restored by the York Glaziers Trust. The major conservation has restored much clarity to the scenes, returning them to a closer approximation of their original appearance and legibility with sensitive releading, removing heavy repair leads that had been introduced over the years. As of 2016 the work is two-thirds completed with the entire Apocalypse section of the window reinstalled along with the topmost traceries. The remainder including the final section depicting scenes from Genesis will hopefully be back in place in 2018.

The east window is the World's largest expanse of medieval stained glass, filling most of the east wall of the cathedral. It is divided into over a hundred square panels, most of which illustrate scenes from the Apocalypse, with a shorter sequence from Genesis above. The window was made by John Thornton of Coventry and his workshop and dates from 1405-8.

York Minster is England's largest medieval cathedral and almost impossible to do justice to. It has an awesome presence that cannot fail to impress.

Uniquely the cathedral was spared the ravages of the Civil War that decimated the medieval art of most English cathedrals and churches, and it thus possesses the largest collection of medieval glass in Britain throughout most of it's vast windows.
