I have been spending a lot more time - too much time, really - in my room this past month than I ever have before. I either sit or lie down while I play some "Easy Listening" music on my iTunes playlist, or I fade into nothingness with silence and the hushed whooshing of my ceiling fan. Occasionally, I will pick up my guitar and play something. But it's always the same song, and the same song gets old...

I think of only one thing when I am in this room, and it's the one thing that makes my stomach turn and my eyes water and my body ache... My thoughts make me shudder, and yet - I am only but still. And I only wish that time would freeze with me so that I would not have to deal with these other things such as school, homework, and chores. My attention span for those three things has cut more than half because of you.

I don't want to get up; I miss you.

This is one of my favorite shots of Rambo and I am so happy that he was walking around in the enclosure.

His fur is pretty wet, because he swam over to this small island that they have. You can see a part of the bigger enclosure behind him, where the metal bar is.

gargoyle atop le Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris, always makes me reminisce. always puts me in the mood for more Paris.

Notre Dame offered some of the best views of the city. other than La Tour Eiffel, that is.

Let me run you through this

Percolating me in for sometime.. had been this thing.. that now has me thinking "Why yes, clearly I must create a modular digital sequencer."

Never mind WTF that is... lets not get distracted!!!

So I got to thinking that maybe the best place to start screwing around designing such a thing.. or iterating, or whatever... was probably Max.

Of course the problem is that I don't really know Max!!!

Well I've gone through some of the tutorials before.. and read through who knows what.. so it wasn't like a totally foreign language.. but.. it would take some time to bring it all back to my brain...

Long story short, what we see here is my first attempt to built anything on my own in Max.. and so let me run you through what we are looking at.

First.. you will note 4 dial knob-e things... under which there are 3 long rectangles?

These are all input's for the sequencer.. I decided I should probably start with the interface and sorta go from there....

The for dial-e knob-e things are "macro controls," the idea being that they will control any number of parameters... with just that one know... and you have 4 of them...

The rectangles? I'm sort not sure of these... The first one is note, second is octave and the 3rd is velocity which.. is how hard you hit a note....

Basically what this is a possible design for "a step" in the sequencer... So this step might equal a quarter note, lets say... and so all of these parameters might be controlled for that one quarter note.. through this controller.

The trick here is really User Experience design.. and its to figure out.. how the interface should work.

My feeling is that this sequencer should have 32 steps.. so that I can have a 2 bar loop at 16th note resolution... so there would actually be this thing.. repeated 32 times...

Err, I need to write a blog post on this!

A thinking man in San Sebastian, Spain.

Recently, under the heading 'Looking for the Light', Tony started a discussion about the relationship between photography and thinking. That interests me, but I'm also interested in the relationship between writing and thinking, and beyond that I'm interested in what happens in a conversation such as this when we mix photographs, words, and thought in in this new medium. I noticed the extract pictured above in a newspaper and saw an opportunity to resume discussion.

For me the process starts not with a text or photograph, but with people and things in the real world. My approach is to look around me, to open my eyes, to try to see more clearly, and then to think about what I have seen. Currently I'm using my camera as a notebook to bring scenes home for further thought. Writing caption such as this helps me to develop my thoughts; the discussion that I hope will follow will add to my understanding.

Who knows? I may even put a few sequences of thought together and weave them into a more coherent picture.

365.....project, 2021, days, flickr, Monday, August 30, 2021.

This was from xmass day 2009. I have been going back through my old unprocessed images and finishing them. I did shots of each of the guests in front of the tree. This year I am thinking of few ways to spice things up.
