Food preservation is an effective way of saving food and preventing it from being wasted or lost. In fact, communities around the world have been employing food saving methods for centuries in order to prolong its shelf life. More:www.unep.org/wed/news/foodpreservation.asp
The theme for this year’s World Environment Day celebrations is Think.Eat.Save.
Think.Eat.Save is an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages you to reduce your foodprint. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), every year a third of global food production equivalent to 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted. This is equivalent to the same amount produced in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa. At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger. More: www.unep.org/wed/theme/

There are time to think and learn but not dwell. Those who want to change can change but if you let the mind win it will always pick self perseverance .

Post from a month ago introducing Waylon www.flickr.com/photos/kaymaguire/4001770902/
Waylon is improving slowly, he is very nervous and has been badly beaten in the past with the result that some of his teeth were broken but also leaving him extremely nervous as you can imagine. He has stomach problems due to being malnourished for some time. He is very energetic and such a good soul - hopefully with some time and care he will improve:-)

I've started working on a plus quilt these days! I've never done a quilt before and apart from this I'm quite new to sewing. But it's so much fun and I can't wait the quilt to be finished!

Aprovechando la idea de las fotos anteriores y sabiendo el gusto de mi hijo por Apple y además no estando muy inspirada les dejo esta propuesta
There's also bushes with white flowers like this. Not quite sure, but I think they're Honeysuckle. They're wild and grow down by the river!!! :)
I think I am starting to catch on. I don't think that this is the same Hummingbird I had in the yard as last year. That bird would spend about 15 seconds at the feeder each visit.
This blighter, on the other hand, spends between 2 and 3 seconds per visit. If I'm not ready with my hand on the camera when he shows up, I get nothing (and often get nothing anyway). I spent about 6 hours today with this little clown and ended up with maybe 10 so-so shots.
As they say, adapt or . . . . don't.
I have chosen to adapt (for now). I am making my little blind more efficient so that I can get a couple more shots per visit (4 or 5 max vs 20-30 last year). Also, when the camera has to hunt to focus, I get nothing. I tried using the preset focus button, but it is in a tough position to reach quickly. My solution was to attach an oil filter wrench to the ring to make it easier to get quickly.
I will not give in to him!!! (or, maybe he has complete control over my life - I'm not sure)

[I'm quite proud of the fact that I managed this one with a Manual focus 500mm lens. Its extremely difficult to shoot birds with such a long Manual lens & doing so teaches you a -lot- abt exposure, camera control & most importantly induces a whole lot of patience in you. The 2 other photographers who came along with me on this shoot were both equipped with high speed focus lenses. By the time I'd manage to set up my mamoth lens & try focussing, they would have each exposed atleast 10 frames. It was really frustrating at times... but the learning is phenomenal!]
About a minute after I shot this image it started raining like whaaaaaaat.. Don't think the drone would have lived if this hadn't been the last shot. Way to close of a call 🙈 You think you can predict Iceland, but you can't. Barely have seen such rapid weather changes before. I think my favorite part of abandonment is opening doors. Each doorway is, like, the mystery within the mystery. I have passed this door about 20 times and first opened it tonight.
When it doesn't pour rain outside we manage to go for soggy walks...I think she was ready to go in way before I took this..her hungry goil! lol!
Did you know the human eye is able to differentiate more shades of green than any other colour? The belief behind this is one of evolution and survival when our early ancestors relied on being able to find food, water and life. We are reassured and feel safe when seeing green.
positive psychological qualities of green
When we see green our eye requires no adjustment. This is because it is at the centre of the colour spectrum, making green very restful, creating balance and harmony. It provides reassurance, restorative and refreshing. In nature the bright light fresh green represents new life and new growth.
It is the colour that represents universal peace and universal love, that of mother earth and the environment.
negative psychological qualities of green
Green, like any colour also has negative traits. Too much green or being surrounded by the wrong shade of green can bring up the feelings of boredom, lack of life and stagnation. It can also communicate rot and decay.
“Absolute green is the most restful color, lacking any undertone of joy, grief, or passion.
50 shades of green
There are so many shades of green from the bright yellow chartreuse, lime, cool jade green, emerald, forest, bottle, to the olive and khaki greens just to name a few.
