Founded by Chesneau, LULEA is an enterprise for social impact specialising in training Kenyans to be masters in the creation of luxury leather goods of outstanding quality. This gentleman had started to come and help the grandmother milk her cows. She needs milk for the infants she takes care of. He was nice enough to let me take his portrait.

AJB K201 clone. Collected by Alan Butler in May 1991, 50km North of Nairobi towards Thika junction, bare rocky hill isolated in grassy plain, K4, Central Province, Kenya, 1500m. Leaves are smooth and could reach 60-105 cm. I think the markings are beautiful.

All these are taken from quite old slides so quality isn't that brilliant - but the memories are!! :)

RV Teams had the hazardous job of setting up camp in forward positions, in "hot areas", in order to attract guerrillas and send them on to the main AP, in this case to AP JULIET at Zezani Mission.

Looking like a scene from 'The Flame Trees of Thika", the headquarters building of M'tshabezi Mission School, selected by us because of its good fields of fire.

The super high way has helped, this was the old GSU round-about, this used to be crazy for motorist due to bad habits of PSV driver(Matatu). But as you can see its smooth all the way.

Decided to take a walk to 14 Falls, loved the place. @magicalkenya #lategram #kenya365 #travel #ig_Kenya #ig_Africa #Fourteen #Falls #Thika #nature #Africa

The road you are viewing this picture from is an adjacent from KBL to the main high way. In older days getting to KBL or Ngumo estate from Nairobi was hell, now you just use a flyover(not in the picture).

Lilian Njeri Mungai, Peer Educator

Lilian Njeri Mungai, 58, lives in Thika, about an hourâs drive from Nairobi. She is originally from Nairobi and moved to Thika when she married. Lilian and her husband had a son in 1974, who subsequently had three girls (Lucy 14, Lilian 12 and Evelyn 5). Lilian is now a widow. Her son died from an AIDS-related illness, so Lilian is now looking after her grandchildren on her own.

Interview with Paul and Ian: Whatâs your favourite subject at school and why?

Paul: I like Maths â itâs the subject Iâm best at.

Ian: I like Social Sciences best. I donât know why: I just do!

What game do you like best?

Paul: I like playing football, although I donât have a football of my own. I also like drawing.

Ian: I like flying my kite. I made it out of sticks, some string and a plastic bag.

What would you like to be when you grow up?

Paul: Iâd like to be a doctor in Nairobi so I could treat those people who are needy and sick.

Ian: Iâd like to be a policeman so I could get rid of crime.

How does Lilian help you?

Paul: She brings us breakfast in the morning â we have tea and bread Then in the vening, she brings us maize flour and vegetables to eat.

What do you think of Lilian?

Paul: Lilian is a good lady: she looks after us. If she didnât come here, we would have had to go to our uncle, but that wouldâve been very hard because he is disabled.

Ian: I like Lilian because she has taken care of us since our mum left.

Lilian is also looking after two boys (Paul, 13 and Ian, 11). Their father abandoned them; and their mother â who is living with HIV - was imprisoned for alcoholism and child neglect. The two boys were poorly behaved to begin with, but now they have settled down after having been looked after by Lilian.

Press release: EU provides 26 scholarships for refugee youth in Dadaab

29/10/2014

Today, the European Union and its partners, Africa Education Trust (AET) and Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) launched a scholarships programme for 26 secondary school leavers from Dadaab (Kenya), the world’s largest refugee camp. The initiative aims at promoting higher education and training opportunities for young people confined to this camp and lacking perspectives.

The scholarship beneficiaries will be enrolled in Mount Kenya University, Thika Campus. The beneficiaries are pursuing Certificate and Diploma level courses in development related fields like Project Management, Public Relations and Early Childhood Development and Education. The programme will no doubt contribute to having educated and skilled Somali refugees, capable of rebuilding their country when they eventually return.

The scholarships initiative is part of the Somalia-Wide Education Synergies (SWES) programme worth 5 million EUR. The geographical focus of the programme is Somaliland, Puntland and South Central Somalia as well as Dadaab. It focuses on education issues which are better addressed on Somalia-wide basis such as examinations, curriculum, scholarships and networking between the regions.

The EU also funds a complementary education programme in Dadaab worth 3.5 million EUR. This programme aims at improving the school infrastructure, increasing the number of trained teachers, improving ICT skills of secondary and post-secondary school students, building capacities of school management committees and expanding vocational training opportunities for youth. In addition, the EU provides 240 Dadaab teacher scholarships to acquire either Certificate (120) or Diploma (120) level qualifications. (END)

Midowga Yurub oo Deeq-waxbarasho siiyay 26 dhalinyarada ku nool Dadaab

Maanta, Midowga Yurub iyo hay’adaha la shaqeeya ee African Education Trust (AET) iyo Xarunta Macalimiinta Biritishka (CfBT) ayaa waxay bilaabeen barnaamij Deeq-Waxbarasho oo ah 26 arday oo dhamaystay Dugsi Sare ee Dadaab Kenya, Xereda Qaxoonti ee Aduunka ugu wayn. Hindisahan cusub waxay ujeedadiisu tahay in sare loo qaado Waxbarshada Sare iyo fursadaha tababaro ee la siiyo dhalinyarada ku jira xeryaha ee aan helin fursadaha

Ardayda ka faa’iidaysata Deeqda-Waxbarasho waxaa la qorayaa Jaamacada Mount Kenya iyo Jaamacada Thika. Ardayda ku guulaysata Deeqda Waxbarsho waxay wadanayaan koorsooyin heer Shahaado iyo heer diblooma ba ah, waxayna baranayaaan culuumta ku saabsan horumarka, sida loo maamulo mashaariicda, Xidhiidhka Dadwaynaha iyo horumarinta caruurta da’doodu yar tahay iyo waxbarashada. Barnaamijkan ayaan shaki ku jirin inuu qayb ka qaadanayo in la helo Soomaali qaxoonti ah oo leh xirfad iyo aqoon si ay u awoodaan inay dalkooda dib u dhistaan markay dib u laabtaan.

Deeqdan-waxbarasho waxay qayb ka tahay barnaamijka Isku-dhafka Waxbarashada Soomaaliya oo dhan (SWES) oo ku kacaya 5 Milyan oo lacagta Euroga ah. Juquraafi ahaan barnaamjikani wuxuu ka shaqaynayaa Somaliland, Puntland iyo Bartamaha iyo Koonfurta Soomaaliya iyo sidoo kale xerada qaxoontiga ee Dadaab. Waxaa diiradda lagu saaraa arrimaha waxbarasho ee si guud wax looga qabtay Soomaaliya oo dhan sida, imtixaanada, manhajka waxbarsho, deeaha waxbarasho iyo isku xidhka goboladda.

Midowga Yurub wuxuu sidoo kale taageeraa barnaamij waxbarasho oo dheeraad ee Dadaab kaas oo ku kacaya 3.5 Milyan oo lacagta Euroga ah. Barnaamijkani wuxuu u jeedaa inuu sare u qaado kaabayaasha dugsiga, kordhinta tirade macalimiinta la tababaray, kor-uqaadista xirfadaha ICTga ee ardayda Dugsiga sare iyo kuwa dhamaysatay dugsiga sare, dhisida aqoonta iyo xirfada gudida maamulka dugsiga iyo kordhinta xirfadaha farsamada gacanta ee dhalinyarta, intaa waxaa dheer Midowga Yurub wuxuu bixiyaa Deeq-waxbarasho oo lagu tababaro macalimiinta si ay u helaan Shahaado iyadoo la tababaro 120 macalin oo shahaado qaata halka 120 kalena ay qaataan shahaado heer Diblooma ah.

Nairobi-Thika superhighway is almost complete, the marking and lightening in now on the way. This super high way will help once this crazy raod with traffic jam. But looking the other side i cannot how some guys do not care, how on earth can you seat on rail that are supposed to protect and accident that may occur, do you see those guys with even a bicycle. God have mercy on them

24-12-10 We spent a fair bit of time on the road between Embu and Nairobi. Its being completely rebuilt by the chinese government and it is in a terrible state. Roadworks in Kenya are like nothing you have ever seen. Traffic in Kenya is very very aggressive and thus its an all out free for all on the roads! Luckily we were travelling in a bus and size usually wins. These little signs would crop up along the roadworks. Hand painted, I get the feeling there were only put in place after several vehicles had gone over!

Currently residing in the bustling neighborhood of Thika, situated within the picturesque Kiambu County, I’m seeking a sincere and compassionate companion to share romantic moments, bask in the beauty of sunrise and sunset together, and possibly explore various destinations across the country and beyond. Whether it’s embarking on adventures, savoring delicious cuisine, or engaging in heartfelt conversations, I believe in cherishing every moment. So, if you value authenticity, appreciate good company, and are open to dating a sugar mummy, let’s get acquainted. I have my own means of transportation and I’m willing to buy a car for my partner. I’m happy to share my blessings."
