Great Blue Heron. View Large. It is a large wading bird common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North and Central America as well as the West Indies and the Galápagos Islands. It is a rare vagrant to Europe, with records from Spain, the Azores and England. The dreamy waves were a welcome result of the low light before dawn and a somewhat slow exposure. I regret to say that this is one of the few times I've ever gritted my teeth and gone out to shoot before 4 AM. And it was FRIGID.
