20th Sept 2013 National Punch Day—The word “punch” allegedly comes from the Hindustani word “panch,” which means “five.” In the early 1600s, sailors and employees of the British East India Company brought a new exotic drink from India to England. The beverage was made with five ingredients—spirits, lemon, sugar, water, and tea.
She is holding a glass of "Sharbat" ...:)
The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord God; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:
Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:
With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:
By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches:
Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God;
Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness.
They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas.
Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.
Thou shalt die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.
Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Son of man, set thy face against Zidon, and prophesy against it,
And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her.
For I will send into her pestilence, and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
And there shall be no more a pricking brier unto the house of Israel, nor any grieving thorn of all that are round about them, that despised them; and they shall know that I am the Lord God.
Thus saith the Lord God; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob.
And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yea, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them; and they shall know that I am the Lord their God.

advent :: december 9
"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."

also be sure to keep up with my sister's advent series over here (she makes my photos more beautiful with her words!)

There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

I met her at the Bloom Cafe
on Pico in Los Angeles. She is 97.
Her husband, Paul Sims, was a host
at Chasen's restaurant in Beverly Hills,
and died in 1988. She is bright and
seemingly happy though she confessed
to me that she doesn't feel well, she's anemic,
and, she said in a hushed voice,
"I don't have any sex."
I took many photos of her, all of which
are wonderful. She ate some bean soup
which she loved - said she's been losing
a lot of weight, and rarely has an apetite.
But she said she sometimes has parties
for friends, and would like to invite me.
I'm glad. I'm there.
Ott's Garden Center..yup this is what they do every year. In spring it is pansies. Better yet there is a tropical greenhouse with immense jungle plants year round... in Skippack , PA.

The Beatles are one of my biggest influences. They've inspired me in so many ways musically. Now, they've also inspired me with photography.
Long live the Beatles.

He served in the Korean Conflict (US Army), as did my wife's father (US Navy). I served in the Navy, My wife is a veteran of both the US Navy and US Army. Our daughter and son-in-law are both Master Sergeants in the US Air Force. Please remember the meaning of Memorial Day. It isn't simply another holiday.
TERRY CHRISTIAN: broadcaster, journalist and author was born on the 8th May 1960. Brought up in Brooks Bar, Old Trafford, in an Irish family with six brothers and sisters. In 1988, he joined Manchester’s Key 103 FM and given a free hand to broadcast and promote what would later be dubbed the Madchester Scene to a mainstream young audience, playing the Stone Roses, the Happy Mondays, the Inspiral Carpets and 808 State. In 1990 Terry was recruited to host the controversial Channel 4 youth entertainment show The Word, named after his column in the Manchester Evening News, and based on the format of his music magazine radio shows. The show was a mixture of pop music and teen attitude, and attracted up to a 49% audience share in its Friday night slot. The Word hosted many groups playing live for the first time on British TV, including Oasis, Nirvana, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy and Rage Against the Machine. Christian remained its only continuous presenter until it finished its run in 1995. Terry was runner up in the sixth series of Celebrity Big Brother and is a regular guest Good Morning Britain, The Wright Stuff and more recently the Jeremy Vine show.
GREATER MANCUNIANS is a Manchester College student led landmark photography project (supported by Manchester City Council). It features those people born, bred, or who have made their home within the current Greater Manchester boundary and who have in some way culturally shaped the city and its surrounding boroughs.

This is my investigation of a man that carried a strong word, and who left behind a powerful story. I'm interested in sharing the weight of his word, and taking the responsibility to initiate healthy cross cultural/community communication with the language that I know.

Meet Mario. Media designer. Comic geek. And a very good friend of mine. He reintroduced me to the world of comic books a couple of years ago by giving me one of the greatest stories ever told. I've never seen or read anything like it since then and I'm deeply thankful for that experience. Of course I'm talking about "Preacher" by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride full of fear, anger, sadness and laughter. Simply put, a hell of a lot fun to read!
So we decided to do a little tribute to our favorite graphic novel.
This time, watch Reverend Custer speaking "the word"!

“The Word”
If there are words for Him then I don’t have them
You see my brain has not yet reached a point
Where it could form a thought
That could adequately describe the greatness of my God
And my lungs have not yet developed the ability
To release a breath with enough agility
To breathe out the greatness of His love
And my voice, my voice is so inhibited
Restrained by human limits
That it’s hard to even send a praise up
If there are words for Him then I don’t have them
My God
His grace is remarkable
Mercies are innumerable
Strength is impenetrable
He is honorable, accountable, and favorable
Unsearchable yet knowable
Indefinable yet approachable
Indescribable yet personal
He is beyond comprehension
Further than imagination
Constant through generations
King of every nation
But
If there are words for Him then I don’t have them
You see my words are few
And to try and capture the one TRUE God
Using my vocabulary will never do
But I use my words as an expression
An expression of worship to a Savior
A Savior who is both worthy and deserving of my praise
So I use words
My heart extols the Lord
Blesses His name forever
He has won my heart, captured my mind
And has bound them both together
He has defeated me in my rebellion
Conquered me in my sin
He has welcomed me into His presence
Completely invited me in
He has made Himself the object of my sight
Flooding me with mercies in the morning
Drowning me with grace in the night
But
If there are words for Him then I don’t have them
But what I do have…Is Good News
For my God knew that man-made words would never do
For words are just tools that we use
To point to the Truth
So He sent his son Jesus Christ as THE WORD
Living proof
He is the image of the invisible God
The firstborn of all creation
For by Him all things were created
Giving nothingness formation
And by His word He sustains, in the power of His name
For He is before all things and over all things He reigns
HOLY IS HIS NAME!!
Praise Him for His life
The way He persevered in strife
The humble Son of God becoming the perfect sacrifice
Praise Him for His death
That He willingly stood in our place
That He lovingly endured the grave
That He battled our enemy
And on the third day rose in victory
Praise Him because He rose!!
Hallelujah He rose!!
He is everything that was promised
Praise Him as the risen King
Lift your voice and sing
For one day He will return for us and we will finally be
United with our Savior for eternity
So it’s not just words that I proclaim
For my words point to the WORD
And the WORD has a name
Hope has a name
Joy as a name
Peace has a name
Love has a name
And that name is Jesus Christ
Praise His name FOREVER!

He was sitting behind
ample foliage behind
a clothing store on Melrose
in Hollywood. He told me his name
was Bob and that he could use
whatever help came his way.
His clothing was torn, frayed
and he had on these old glasses
and this great hat. He had
little to say. He seemed
deeply sad. I took a few photos
of him. In most of them he was
distracted looking, looking away,
looking down. But I asked him,
gently, to look at me,
and he did,
and I got this one.
