The Windows Arches in Utah.

The Windows area in Arches National Park as the night takes over after sunset.

Late in the day there in Arches National Park.

The Windows area of this great National Park. Stitch of several captures taken with the Canon T1i.

From this ledge high up you can see three arches at once. It was a glorious sunrise with the clouds there and nice to been in this spot at this time!

Morning light as I was standing there looking back at the North Window in Arches National Park. Amazing nature at work.

Pinks filled the sky as the sun as coming up on this Utah morning.

After sunset looking west towards The Windows in Arches National Park.

North Window Arch there in Arches National Park.

Moody clouds around on this cool summer evening in Arches. Stitched together here four captures taken hand held showing all the hikers enjoying this location as well. They give a great sense of scale to the scene.

A cloudy evening view of the two arches.

When I looked up I saw half the moon there ... and half of the North Window Arch ... :)

Amazing how small the moon looks with the wide angle lens.

With a width of 35 feet and a height of 65 feet Turret Arch frames the first sunset of winter beautifully!

The people there in the right eye add quite the scale to the arches.

This is the last sunset of 2019 as seen through the Window from the Basin in Big Bend National Park. This is looking down into the desert from the mountains.

Whew! Made it through one more year of 365. I am going to take a break in 2020. I have loved all your photos and will continue to look in at your fabulous shots!

Happy New Year!

Happy April 2026 Polaroid Week!

Day 1

Still getting through the West Texas polaroids from 2024. I thought I was done posting them last Polaroid Week, but I found a forgotten stash of pack film I'd shot on the trip. Not a bad idea to put some polaroids in a rarely used bag to be a nice surprise later on lol

In case you haven't heard, they're building a wall through the magnificent desert this polaroid was shot in. Check out No Big Bend Wall for more info and ways to help stop it.

The North and South Windows in Arches National Park seem sleepy. I didn't remove Musk's contribution to the night sky. He already has too many satellites, but he wants to put up many thousands more.

An image captured a short time after sunset from the outdoor dining area in the Chisos Mountains Lodge. The view was looking to the northwest towards The Window with Vernon Bailey Peak and Carter Peak. My thinking in composing this image was to keep the Chisos Basin area more or less in silhouette and let the brighter areas beyond The Window be the focus, by being both in the image center as well as from the light still shining in that area. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted, as well as cropping some of the foreground for the final image.

There’s nothing quite like watching a desert sunset through the North Window in Arches National Park. The textures glow, the colors warm, and the whole scene feels like nature’s showtime.

If you wondered where it comes from, it is from the little fairies that hike and climb around in your eyes while you are sleeping of course ;)

February 2017

Here is the comp of the Turret Arch taken through the North Window ... a little closer to sunset that is warmer tones than the first image I have posted from this location. The cooler toned capture is shown below in the comments. Similarly, this is a 30 second exposure taken there. This image has a little cloning done to remove the "ghost" images of the people that were standing and walking around there in the arch. It was very exciting to be there and capture this with some fabulous colors there in the clouds.

The Windows - Turret Arch.

Turret Arch, insieme al Double Arch, fa parte di una serie di archi nella zona delle Finestre del parco.

L'apertura più grande ha una campata di 10,6 metri e un'altezza di 20,7 metri, ed è la più piccola delle tre arcate della zona.

The Windows - Turret Arch.

Turret Arch, along with Double Arch, form part of a series of arches in the Windows region of the park.

The larger opening has a span of 35 feet and a height of 65 feet, and is the smallest of the three arches in the region.
