a foggy day in the cemetery

The fact that the cemetery, an oasis of tranquility a stone's throw from the busy Thiemsbrug intersection, still exists thanks to Frederika ter Horst, a wealthy single lady from Deldensestraat who, after her death in 1912, left her entire fortune to maintain the burial place. "The Communal Maintenance Association was founded then", says Marinus, who was the funeral director at the Oldenzaalsestraat cemetery for 16 years. A statue of her is a reminder of her good deed. Europe, Netherlands, Rotterdam Centre, Laurenskwarier, The View (slghtly cut from all sides)

Shot in ‘The View’, the largest mobile ferris wheel in Europe (Observation wheel RR55). It was there on a mission, enabling the visitors to see what 75 years of reconstruction (after the WW2) brought Rotterdam during the 'Rotterdam viert de stad' ("Rotterdam celebrates the city”) festival.

The View was brand new at the time. Its numbers: width 24 m height 55m, capacity 252 persons in 42 gondolas).

This is number 1361 of Minimalism - explicit graphism .

Just a view at the end of the day, hoping for a bright day to follow!

I first visited Monument Valley, the sacred land of the Diné in 2007.

Fifteen years later, I finally returned, and was amazed at how much the surroundings had changed.

The most visible one is the beautiful multi-million dollar hotel, The View, that was built a year after my first trip, and sits on the cliff overlooking the valley.

Over the years, I began seeing images of the valley from a different vantage point, one I didn't know about on my first trip, and soon became a bucket lister; Hunts Mesa.

It's a trip you can only take with a Navajo guide, and my buddy and I found one of, if not the best, on the Navajo Nation to the best to take us there, Harry Nez.

This 2.5 hour trek to a place which google maps says is only 5 miles as the crow flies, is definitely not one for someone who doesn't like EXTREME driving.

The ride is not something you can describe to do it justice; you just have to experience it on your own.

If you ask someone who's been there how the road is, the answer you're most likely to get is, "what road?"

A lot of websites say that you have to camp on the mesa overnight. That's not true, but if you do, you do get to catch sunset AND sunrise -- and have a steak dinner that smelled amazingly good.

I wish we could have caught the sunrise as well because I think the light then is really a lot more dramatic; building in intensity as the sun bathes the landscape in golden light.

That all said, though -- I'm glad I was able get there -- because it is DEFINITELY a once in a lifetime memory.

A view of Lake Annecy, the distant mountains and the heavily wooded hillside's that run down to the water's edge. I had to climb steeply from the shoreline until I found a suitable break in the trees to get a decent view.

hoping for lessons learned.

when taking a photo of the path to a view, remember to remove the SawsAll, the drink cup, and the gloves from the table on which the camera sits.
