The collared aracari was described by the Spanish naturalist Francisco Hernández (1514-1587) in his work Rerum medicarum Novae Hispaniae thesaurus, seu, Plantarum animalium mineralium Mexicanorum historia which was published posthumously in 1651. In his Latin text Hernández used the name De Cochitenacatl, the word for the bird in the local Nahuatl language. Later ornithologists based their own descriptions on that by Hernández. These included Mathurin Brisson in 1760, the Comte de Buffon in 1780, and John Latham in 1782.
When the German naturalist Johann Friedrich Gmelin revised and expanded Carl Linnaeus's Systema Naturae in 1788 he included the collared aracari and cited the descriptions by earlier ornithologists. He placed it with the toucans in the genus Ramphastos and coined the binomial name Ramphastos torquatus. The specific epithet is a Latin word meaning "collared". When John Gould published a hand-coloured illustration of the collared aracari in 1854 he commented: "We find in the writings of the older authors — Gmelin, Latham, and others — a species of this family called Ramphastos torquatus, which may have been intended to indicate the present bird, but their descriptions and measurements are somewhat inapplicable; at the same time it is the only species yet discovered having a distinct reddish collar at the back of the neck, and there is no other bird which agrees so well with their obscure descriptions". The type location has been restricted to the state of Veracruz in southeast Mexico. The collared aracari is now one of 14 species placed in the genus Pteroglossus that was introduced in 1811 by Johann Karl Wilhelm Illiger.
The International Ornithological Committee (IOC) and BirdLife International's Handbook of the Birds of the World (HBW) recognize three subspecies:
P. t. torquatus - (Gmelin, 1788)
P. t. erythrozonus - Ridgway, 1912
P. t. nuchalis - Cabanis, 1862 (originally described as a separate species.

that have been loved to bits, literally.
Roget's Thesaurus was won by my Uncle Ernie in 1933 in a crossword competition; I have used it all my life; the binding is held on by a few shreds of sticky tape but all the pages are there-
When we were very young is the first book I was ever given, it's dated Xmas 1943 which is before my time and I have no idea who gave it to me, but I knew all the poems by heart before I went to school. It is missing pages, and the others are torn, loose and held in by yellowing sellotape.

The ceiling of the dome of Florence is decorated with a representation of The Last Judgment. Originally left whitewashed following its completion it was the Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici who decided to have the ceiling of the dome painted. This enormous work, 3,600 metres² of painted surface, was started in 1572 by Giorgio Vasari and would not be completed until 1579. The upper portion, near the lantern, representing The 24 Elders of Apocalypse was finished by Vasari before his death in 1574. Federico Zuccari with the assistance of Bartolomeo Carducci, Domenico Passignano and Stefano Pieri finished the other portions: (from top to bottom) Choirs of Angels; Christ, Mary and Saints; Virtues, Gifts of the Holy Spirit and Beatitudes; and at the bottom of the cupola: Capital Sins and Hell. These frescoes are considered Zuccari's greatest work. But the quality of the work is uneven because of the input of different artists and the different techniques. Vasari had used true fresco, while Zuccari had painted in secco. During the restoration work, which ended in 1995, the entire pictorial cycle of The Last Judgment was photographed with specially designed equipment and all the information collected in a catalogue. All the restoration information along with reconstructed images of the frescos were stored and managed in the Thesaurus Florentinus computer system.
The University of Coimbra is one of the oldest universities in Europe and the world, and the oldest in the country.
Its history dates back to the century following the founding of the Portuguese nation on 1 March 1290, when King Denis I of Portugal signed the document ‘Scientiae thesaurus mirabilis’ in Leiria, establishing the university.
The university was founded in 1290 by King Denis I. It was first established in Lisbon.
The university was transferred to Coimbra in 1308.
In 1338, during the reign of Afonso IV, it was relocated to Lisbon.
In 1537, during the reign of João III, the university was permanently established in Coimbra, where it was housed in the Alcaçova Palace.
So lifelike's the McNugget, I reflexively jumped out of the way of the splashing sauce seeming to come @ me.
Except everybody knows glassware hasn't got anything to do with the experience of McDonalds — the ingestion etc. But McNuggets flung from people's mouths and hands and making messes when they land places, that's 100% accurate to all of my McDonald's memories. "Here's your serving suggestion!" etc.
It kind of seems like a waste of all the "mechanical separation" work that went into the production of the McNuggets!

High on the north-western slopes of the Malvern Hills, West Malvern was originally part of Mathon parish in Herefordshire. However, during the village's growth as a health resort in the 19th Century, the chapel of ease of St James (built in the 1840s) was brought into the Malvern district and the Diocese of Worcester.
The first church on this site was built in 1841 by Harvey Eginton as a chapel of ease to nearby Mathon, now in Herefordshire. It soon proved to be too small and was demolished in 1870 to make way for this building designed by G E Street. The interior is of a typical 19th century church.
Roget, of Thesaurus fame, is buried in St James's churchyard.

Just like in 1:1 scale life, dolls need the right skills, instruments, and equipment to do any job properly. For this theme, show us your doll at work or pursuing his/her hobby with all the necessary equipment or supplies at her fingertips. Does your doll spend most days inside his art studio filled with canvases, paint, and brushes? Does she rebuild engines and has a garage filled with wrenches, screwdrivers, and an air compressor? Maybe we'll find your doll on the farm surrounded by tractors, wheelbarrows, and shovels. Or maybe all your doll needs is a laptop, a thesaurus, and a vivid imagination to finish writing that epic novel! From start to finish, tools make many projects and tasks possible. Let's get ready to ooh and ahh over all those dolly diorama details!
This photo: This photo fits the doll I chose. Robynne (girlfriend of alpaca farmer and French cook Claude Paloux) is pretty handy with tools and machinery. Here, she's preparing to cut a board to size. The pencil in her hair is a small nod to my dad. He ran a woodworking business, and any time I'd see him at work, he'd have on a dusty shop apron and a pencil behind his ear. He often figured number conversions for exact measurements or pricing of lumber by hand. <3

UNIVERSITY OF COIMBRA, PORTUGAL
Its immediate antecedent is the Estudo Geral founded in 1290 in Lisbon and transferred to Coimbra in 1308 by King Dionisio I. Only a century later, after the founding of the Portuguese nation.
Earlier, in 1288, an Appeal to Pope Nicholas IV had been drawn up, signed by the abbots of the monasteries of Alcobaça, Santa Cruz de Coimbra and San Vicente de Lisboa and by the parish priests of 24 churches and convents in the kingdom. This document requested the foundation of a "General Study" financed by the signatory religious institutions. Actually, it is not known if this Request would reach the Holy See.
On March 1, 1290, Dionisio I signed in Leiría, the document "Scientiae thesaurus mirabilis", which established the University itself and asked Pope Nicholas IV for confirmation.
A foggy notion today, a legacy in my mind
sharing my room, consuming my mood
like rumbling guitars rolling on the horizon
upside down tears fall, afraid to intrude
taking it easy on the unknown pathway
a wreathed sky wrestles light and leeway
when we give ourself back...to ourselves
we feel the embrace of memory and possibility
abandon the you within you; me within me
now into one another we speak of responsibility
you have gone, as far as I can see, within me
into the unknown you, I find myself, the returnee
and it's just my coaptation, just is just in setting Sun
scarved by the divinity of gently retiring clouds
their life's work stretches the horizon beyond imagination
in reverse found forward thinking shrouds
take it all in, consume temptation together with fate
love it for all it's worth, let yourself go and conjugate
yes, I want to feel nothing like before, only this-
moment beyond waking hours, dream upon dream
the worship of retreating into the eyeopening vista of entirity
somewhere becomes everywhere in the unknown's highest esteem
I'm gone, way beyond pretence, into the weave of light
every stitch encapsulates a thread of life of sovereign invite
one minute here the next is forever into the super unknown
trust is sweet within the rich ingredient of the sublime nature
taste but enough as lust will fill more than enough emptiness
deep inside the thesaurus of wanting ways to describe the candidature-
of emotion, of feeling, of hurts upon the reality of earthen slight
now, one figure will suffice in the mirror of the as yet unknown delight.

Fozzie: “I was reading my Thesaurus, but then I had to turn the calendar page.
Kermit: “That’s right. It’s the month of June now.”

It was a busy day gearing up to be away from the office for the next 10 days. No reason for the break other than it seemed like a good idea.
But because it was so busy rushing to get things done I didn't have time to touch the camera until the sun was already starting to set.
Luckily I came across these pine cones soaking up the sun. I'm glad I did because I really like the orange tones in this shot.
Anyway, hope everyone has had a good day.

So useful to have one at hand.

This is Roget's Thesaurus, and the page was a totally random page frantically chosen racing the 10s timer... (See the Note)
There is some serious bible code stuff going on here...
For FGR - Vanishing Points
Researchers on a new Scots thesaurus say they have found more than 400 Scots words for the white stuff, from “feefle” to “flindrikin”, “spitters” to “snaw-pouther”.
Academics compiling the first Historical Thesaurus of Scots, which will include every word in the Scots language from earliest records until today, claim they have found 421 Scots words for snow. Other examples include “snaw” and “sneesl”, meaning to begin to rain or snow, and “skelf”, a large snowflake.
No matter the type of snow, there is a Scots word for it, according to the thesaurus, whether it is “feefle” (to swirl, as of snow round a corner), “flindrikin” (a slight snow shower), “spitters” (small drops or flakes of wind-driven rain or snow) or “snaw-pouther” (fine driving snow).
“Feuchter” is defined as “to fall lightly, to come down in odd flakes”, “snaw-ghast” is an apparition seen in the snow, and “blin-drift” means drifting snow.

Verdant (adjective)
a
: green in tint or color
b
: green with growing plants
Anyone who has done much railroad photography in the Appalachian region will likely keep this word in mind if asked to come up with adjectives to describe the environment. In the heat and oppressive humidity of the summer months, “verdant” is just one term from Roget's Thesaurus to apply to a landscape that can be difficult with which to deal. In the most extreme cases, “Amazon rain forest” might even do. And then you throw in poisonous snakes, bears, chiggers, mosquitoes, poison ivy, and every form of flora and fauna in Biology 101, and you’re really in trouble. You’re only trying to find an opening in the forest to frame a photo of a train---hopefully one in good light without heavy cloud cover or dark shadows as the sun drops low behind mountains. And of course, there’s the one thing the determines success or failure: a train—and one going in the right direction at the right time of the day, and with a decent looking unit on the point. It can be discouraging, but if all the variables converge in your favor, some good shots can be had. There are challenges to photographers anywhere, but the Appalachian region brings a particular set of tests. You might bring along a weed whip, chain saw, or ladder (or in more recent times, a drone---which would be cheating if you’re a hard-core traditionalist, like me). Most of the time, though, you just have to deal with what you find and work around it.
I opened a yellow Kodak box of slides last evening marked “CSX 130 East-6-18-99.” Of course I should have labeled every slide mount with that information, plus the specific location where an image was taken, and with my name, of course. I didn’t. I’m just not a big fan of doing all the extra work. I don’t eat all my vegetables either. As long as I had the date, I knew where I was. If someone ends up with these slides after I'm gone, just think of how much fund they'll have trying to figure out the locations.
The first shot was taken at the top of the hill at Oreton, Va. I was able to find a decent window to frame the train there. The second shot was taken at Speers Ferry, where I climbed onto a rock cut for a view down the right of way that was first blasted from the side of the hill by the Charleston, Cincinnati & Chicago Railroad, a company that never really got off the ground, but that left behind some stretches of unfinished railroad grade that were later used by the South Atlantic & Ohio. I can only imagine how challenging it was in the 19th century to locate and build a route through the forest primeval. A drone might have been helpful.
