London Pub Project #11

Trinity Road, Wood Green North London

Took this some time ago but never posted before.

The St Kilda Botanical Gardens are a very beautiful place to visit, not least for all for their wonderful array of roses found in the Alister Clarke Rose Garden.

"The Prince" is a David Austin old world rose from 1990 which produces the most exotic of all roses with masses of petals compacted into each bloom quartered and quilled of rich deep crimson in colour then turning to the deepest purple. When it reaches this point a rich fragrance exudes the blooms wafting and travelling through the air. This is the most beautiful rose the colours a mixture of blackberry colours to match the fragrance of deep rose and berries.

The site of the St Kilda Botanical Gardens were established in the 1800's. The municipal council petitioned the Department of Lands and Survey to make this segment of land bordered by Dickens Street, Tennyson Street and Blessington Street a Botanic Garden. The gardens were formally established in 1859 when a boundary fence was erected. By 1907 significant donations of money and plant material had led to the establishment of a rosary, extensive flower beds and a nursery. Exotic forest trees were planted during the 1870s and Australian species were included in 1932. In the 1950s the Alister Clarke Rose Garden was established and a Sub-Tropical Rain-forest conservatory added in the early 1990's.

He's certainly well decorated, befitting a member of one of Europe's royal families. As to who he is, I'll let others decide.

The Princes, SecondLife's every boy's fantasy, who do you want to be when you grow up?

Excerpt from the Information Board:

This imposing figure is Jungen's take on a "Cigar Store Indian". These statues were once commonly used to indicate the location of tobacconists. The wooden figures with stylized features, wearing crudely exaggerated headdresses, were rooted in the mythologized history of Europeans being "introduced" to tobacco by the people whose land and lives they colonized.

A tropical tree frog leap from the tree and landed on this threshold. The door was closed though.

The Gallery of the Prince in Stockholm's city hall is used for the city's official receptions. The King and Queen of Sweden also hold a special reception here on the night of the Nobel Banquet. Supersize me!

Stockholm City Hall, Sweden

The mosaics present allegories of events and persons from Swedish history in the Byzantine idiom. The southern wall shows different motifs from all around Stockholm: on one side it is illustrated with the Stockholm Harbour, the Katarina Elevator and the Riddarholmen Church. Stockholm City Hall itself is also depicted. The Tre Kronor castle and a horse ridden by Saint Erik are also there. St. Erik's head cannot be seen from the hall due to an error in construction which left it above the roof of the hall.

I think this is one of the greatest movie sequences ever. The cinematography, albeit animated, is gorgeous. Since all the characters are in different places during this Romeo and Juliet-esque scene, with the queen watching enviously, I wanted to put them all together, like a play. Please start saving up, it's coming to Broadway soon, courtesy of me. I will be playing the role of Snow White... and the Prince, and the Queen, and Dwarfs, all except the Huntsman. I can do it ALL, mis amigos. Thank you!

Prince Eugen, who became a successful artist and was a generous patron of the arts, donated his own fresco painting of the lake view from the gallery, The Stockholm’s Shores which can be seen along one wall in the Prince’s Gallery. Along the other wall are windows opening onto an impressive real-life version of the city on the water.

The mosaics present allegories of events and persons from Swedish history in the Byzantine idiom. The northern wall shows a large seated Queen of Lake Mälar, with Stockholm in her lap. This alludes to the poetic name Mälardrottningen (Queen of Lake Mälar) for Stockholm; the city is located between Lake Mälar and the Baltic Sea.

Nestled in the center of Stadshuset is the glittering, mosaic-lined Gyllene Salen (Golden Hall). The beguiling mosaics, made from 19 million bits of gold leaf, are by Einar Forseth (1892–1988). The post-Nobel banquet dancing and festivities happen here.

The Council Chamber is the place where the 101 councillors of the government meet. Stockholm City Hall is the municipal building in Stockholm in Sweden on the island of Kungsholmen. The city council decided to build a new city hall at the former site of Eldkvarn, in 1907.
