The Casa Bonita restaurant in Tulsa, Oklahoma, (formerly Casa Viva and Casa Bonita) has the feel of a small Mexican village, complete with a mariachi band, arcade, "volcano room" with eruptions, cave rooms and an "aristocrat" room.

"Part of the charm and excitement of dining at Casa Bonita is the setting: an interior of nooks, crannies, balconies and strikingly decorated dining rooms. It's like wandering through an old-world Mexican village. Although the restaurant seats over 500 there are so many individual dining areas, the ambience is that of a smaller, more intimate setting. One of the most popular dining areas with the kids is the Cave."

Interesting things to see at a restaurant while catching the last rays of the sun.

: I-5 Design and Manufacture created a fun and family-friendly atmosphere for the Woodies Café, which is located in Santa Cruz, California. The theme we created for this restaurant includes southern beach imagery combined with classic “Woodies” automobiles. Some of the beach elements we designed are custom surfboards that are suspended from the ceiling and have genuine artwork displayed on them, vintage painting of surfers and beach goers, and more. This is the interior 3D design of the Woodies Café, located in Santa Cruz, California. This design speaks a fun and playful family environment, which has a vintage pier-like, beach atmosphere, mixed with classic “Woodies” automobiles and elements. The ceiling is surfaced with a small grain horizontal wood beam in a light tone, and has dark wood beams running perpendicular to them to add contrast and warmth of color. Also displayed on the ceiling are custom surfboards, which are a genuine work of art; they add interest to the ceiling and provide customers with a beach environment, even while indoors. Route 66 Casino, Thunder Road Steakhouse & Cantina restaurant decor theme creation and implementation by I-5 Design & Manufacture. See more examples of restaurant design

Mar 22 2017 [Burgers] A kind of funky restaurant with a 50's and 60's style to it but.. the food wasn't as interesting. Everything seemed less than advertised and in the case of my fries undercooked so I can't recommend it from my or my friends experience. Maybe others had better ones.

The Thunder Road Steakhouse & Cantina in the Route 66 Casino included four large format custom designed printed mural collages like the one pictured here. Wall murals are a really great way to add color and theme to any space. This wall mural included imagery from the 1958 movie “Thunder Road” which is where the steakhouse gets its name and theme inspiration. Visit our homepage for more examples of restaurant theming

There are two caravanserai (resting place or motel for camel caravans) dating back from the ancient Silk Road days in Baku's Icheri Sheher old town district. These are located opposite to each other. We have just seen the Arab side and are now entering the Peshtour or Afghan side, which catered to the Afghan trades of that time. This one is a restaurant as well, though it was closed today, probably due to Eid. In keeping with Afghan custom, there was much dark red and dark green and other dark colours in use, as you can see from this far view of one of the restaurant tables. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

So used I am to not using flash that I asked my guide Ibrahim to take another picture without the flash anyway. I was pleased to note that the large Nikon P900 point and shoot not only looks like a dSLR but it also performs like one! Bravo Nikon! While still not as good as the dSLRs, this is perfectly passable and almost as good. The coat of arms in the background are probably displays of rugs and carpets of the type the Afghan traders would have dealt in at that time. Just a gentle reminder, we are in the underground chambers of an ancient 'caravanserai' (pit stop or motel) for camel caravans using the ancient Silk Road. This half of the serai has been converted into a restaurant with an Afghan/ Peshto theme. Much of this restaurant is located in the underground chambers which would have offered a cool respite to the weary traders using the Silk Road (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

Baku, Azerbaijan was strategically located on the ancient Silk Road (or Silk Route as some call it). So Baku aside, I did see 'caravanserai' complexes. A 'serai' is a resting place where travelers can rest, recuperate and stock up on supplies before the continue on their journey. There were the Silk Road version of motels or hotels if you like. While detailed pictures of the caravanserai in Shaki appear in a separate album, this is one in the Icheri Sheher old city quarter in Baku. There were two actually, opposite to each other, and this is the Arabic side. More pictures follow. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

With the two ladies still busy with their discussions at the point we wanted to photograph, my guide Ibrahim directed me to an adjoining chamber in the Afghan serai restaurant. There was a banquet hall here, and if I remember correctly, my guide had told me that the head of state had held a state banquet here, or had at least entertained an important guest here. Exotic location- how I'd have loved to be that VIP guest! (though as I rule I hate VIPs with their uptight ways and their sense of entitlement!) (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

There are cool underground chambers in the Peshtoun or Afghan themed restaurant. These underground rooms offered a cool respite for weary travelers to sit and relax and pray while their animals were tied outside. There was also a rudimentary 'wind tower' like ventilation system for the underground room which appears above ground as a pleasant dome. Today this underground chamber has been converted into a wine cellar and bar of sorts. And although it was closed on this day due to Eid, it would probably make the erstwhile Afghan traders turn in their graves, devout Moslems as they all were! (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

A pose inside the Peshtoun/ Afghan based 'serai' (pit stop or motel)

restaurant in the Icheri Sheher old town quarter in Baku Azerbaijan. Now I do not generally like to use the flash (strobe) as it brightens the main subject but darkens everything else- and that's exactly what has happened here. With the usual Nikon dSLRs that I generally carry, I wouldn't generally bother with the flash as the auto ISO feature of these advanced cameras generally takes care of exposure, but here I was not carrying my dSLR. Instead, i was carrying my brand new Nikon Coolpix P900 point and shoot which is large like a dSLR but is still only a point and shoot, and I was not sure how things will go with this camera. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

The Afghan (Peshto) side was decidedly more elaborate. Set in the Icheri Sheher old town quarter of Baku, Azerbaijan, this was actually a caravanserai (pit stop or motel for caravans) in the days of the ancient Silk Road. This is now a themed restaurant of sorts. These vast underground chambers now house a restaurant and wine cellar and offered a cool respite for weary travelers. The wine cellar bit would probably make the erstwhile Afghan traders turn in their graves as they were staunch Moslems! A coat of arms of sorts is displayed on the wall at the far end and two ladies are going towards it. One of them is visible here- they are tourists as well. Well, the 'coat of arms' are probably carpets which the Afghan traders would have traded in, among other things. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

Opposite to the Arabic serai is another one, which my guide described as Peshtoun something. Which means it must be Afghanistan or Pakistan-centric. There were Afghan traders using the Silk Road in it's heydays too. Both 'serai' (resting place or an erstwhile motel for camel caravans) were opposite to each other. While we have seen the Arab side of the serai, this is the entrance to the Afghan side of it. This serai was a lot more colourful and was much larger. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

The 'serai' is an old Mughal term which means a resting place. It essentially served as a watering hole for man and beast- traders and their caravans. We are now entering the Arab side of the 'serai'- up ahead is a circular stone around which animals could be secured. All around were rooms for the travelers. I am not sure if restaurants existed in the days of the Silk Road or it was merely cooking facilities which were provided but traders could obtain refreshments here in the day. This serai presently serves as a restaurant- it was closed at the time of our visit. This is in the Icheri Sheher- old town quarter in Baku, Azerbaijan. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

A basement room in the Arabic section of the old caravan serai now serves as a gift shop. Apart from trinkets, it also sells antiques. We did not go down there- it was too hot and I had no intention of buying antiques anyway. We are in the Arab side of the 'caravanserai' or resting place for camel caravans in the days of the Silk Road. The facility now serves as a restaurant, though it was closed at the time of our visit. This is in the Icheri Sheher or old city quarter in Baku, Azarbeijan. (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

As it turned out, my guide Ibrahim was a pretty good photographer as well and took a lot of spontaneous images of me with my iPhone 6+.(no, this is not one of them). I had generally put him in charge of my iPhone 6+ for Instagram photos while I concentrate on the larger Nikon P900, though i did take a few iPhone pictures myself off and on. Here is a final parting shot inside the Afghan themed 'serai' restaurant in the Icheri Sheher old town quarter of Baku, Azerbaijan. (Instagram image, shot with my iPhone 6+ in less than ideal lighting conditions) (Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

Awesome place, but you gonna be lost without being able to communicate in Chinese. As they have no menu, they will get you a dish based on your verbal input. Taste was great and the check was astonishing low.

Hawaiian McDonald's. At least it has character. lol This one's located near the Polynesian Cultural Center on Ohau. We had to eat Mickey D's,,,,yes, I know, but we missed fast food, is that a crime!? :)
