The Merchandise Mart (currently branded as theMart), designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst and White, was the largest building in the world at its opening in 1930. Its 4 million square feet of floor space is located at the junction of the Chicago River's branches. Built by Marshall Field & Co. and later owned for more than half a century by the Kennedy family, the Mart centralized Chicago's wholesale goods business by consolidating architectural and interior design vendors and trades under a single roof. My grandfather, a ladies’ undergarments salesman, had an office here for many years.
Last Saturday was the premiere of Art on theMART the world's largest digital art projection. The display, projected onto the facade of Chicago's Merchandise Mart, will continue for two hours a night, five nights a week and 10 months a year.

Found this 'different' sign in Clarksville, TN back in September of 2011. The name was what caught my eye but the more I looked at it, I just saw a cool sign.
I took three photos bracketed at two exposures each on the under and over shots to create this HDR.

Salesforce Tower dominates the skyline behind this giant red sculpture. The Merchandise Mart ("The Mart") can be seen to its right, illuminated in blue and red for the nightly Art on The Mart show.
The Mart is worth a brief digression. Built in 1930 as a warehouse for Marshall Field & Co., it held the title of the largest (though not tallest) building in the world for the following thirteenn years. In 1943, it lost its title to...any guesses? The Pentagon. In 1945 The Mart was sold to Joseph Kennedy, the father of JFK. The Kennedy family sold it in 1998.
