The Bighorn Sheep were in an area in Jasper where I don't usually see them, near the turnoff to the Maligne Lake Road. The Ewes were grazing and had obviously shooed several lambs up on the rocks to get some peace.
The lambs were full of energy and were quite entertaining for a few minutes, scrambling around on the rocks. I couldn't manage to get a good action shot but did get this lamb isolated, standing up on a ledge.
The traffic was awful, including several long haul truckers and the local province tourists, in their monster F-350 diesels. I swear the behavior of the lunatic fringe is getting worse all the time - where are the police to enforce the reduced speed limit zones in known animal areas?
Steller's jays are always a welcome sight, but none more beautiful of a time than in the winter. I love to see the contrast between their beautiful tones of blue with black against the white of the snow. On this day, we watched as a group of Steller's jays foraged for food in the hardened snow patch. This jay had found some and tossed them back to swallow. So interesting.

Also known as the snake bird or water turkey, the anhinga is a year-round resident of Florida. It is also found from coastal sections of South Carolina westward to Texas and Mexico, and even south to Argentina.
Like cormorants, anhingas do not have oil glands for waterproofing their feathers and the feathers get wet when they are swimming.
You can often spot the anhinga perched on a branch with wings outstretched, drying feathers. They feed on small fish, shrimp, amphibians, crayfish and young alligators and snakes. The fact that their feathers are less water resistant than other birds helps them to swim underwater, where they often spear fish with their long neck and sharp beak. They surface in order to flip their catch into their mouth for consumption.
Mating generally occurs in February with egg-laying occurring throughout the spring and early summer. Nests are built in shoreline trees 15 to 20 feet high.

Because Mr Thaw caused Peter and Aurora's igloo to collapse, Mummy Marian built them a new one that can be used in all four seasons.
Mr Thaw won't get another chance to collapse it! Peter and Aurora's friend Scout from Australia was on his way when the igloo collapsed. Mummy Marian worked hard to get it finished in time.
And... she did it!!!

I put on my Little Red Riding Hood cape. I thought it would be cold in the igloo, but it feels warm inside.

Oh... how cosy, and everything feels so soft, just like you, Aurora!

This fine looking barred owl and its mate live close by. I hear them calling all the time and I have looked for their nest on my property many times. I think it may be on property bordering ours but they are always in our woods. I heard them hooting this evening and they sounded like they were near the road so I took a little drive. I am glad that I did :)

I recently was working on an old Power Amp that had a faulty pot (potentiometer) Flickr says the spelling is wrong but it aint. Basically a volume control knob.
So this them was perfect for me. Just was a little work getting in that close.

This is an irruption winter for Common Redpolls in our area. It's great to see them after an absence of several years. This one is gritting along the side of the road.
Mother and Doe are keeping a curious eye as to what on earth i am doing looking at them with a strange object pointed in their direction.

I had the pleasure of taking a friend, an avid hunter, to the Rockies last weekend. He had never been there. I promised him that we would see deer, elk, and hopefully rams. And we did see deer and elk but no rams until we decided to go back. I could feel his disappointment as he kept moving his eyes on the side of the mountain, searching for them while I was driving. Sure enough, right when we both were losing hope, he spotted these three beautiful wild rams. I stopped the car, and we headed toward a crowd of hikers that had stopped to enjoy them from far, but that wasn't enough for us. We started to approach them slowly as not to scare them and got lucky with a few shots. This fella was the only one who became aware of our presence, and his curiosity made him pose for me. The light was too bright for the photo, but the moment counted more than the photo quality.
Plastic is so useful, functional - an everyday substance that we are urged not to use!
I've always thought of it as "use once and throw away" not something to be treasured and kept.
But these are my favourite Christmas baubles - I love them and use them in my photography whenever I can. And they are made of plastic!

Kish Island, Iran
The Greek Ship is the nickname of a cargo steamship, Khoula F, that has been beached on the southwest coast of Kish Island, Iran, since 1966. She was built in Britain by William Hamilton and Company in Port Glasgow, Scotland, who launched her on 9 March 1943 as Empire Trumpet and completed her in April 1943. From 1946 to 1966 she passed through a series of British and Iranian owners and various changes of name. Her final owners were Greek, and it is from them that she derives her nickname.
In kish Island, the ship attracts tourists who come to view her at sunset.
If they persist in my mind, I try to recreate them.

Benni and I saw these flowers on an overcast day so I was surprised to come home and see them with lots of light on the big screen.

Inedible mushrooms are also often called “Toadstools”. They are not recommended for consumption, most often due to their taste, hard consistency or too small size. But some of them are poisonous and hallucinogenic.
I envy people who know how to pick mushrooms... I don’t know how, in the forest I see a lot of beautiful things, but not mushrooms, they always hide from me. My older brothers refused to take me into the forest, they had to look for me, not mushrooms :)
Always a delight to spot colourful waxcaps and even better to capture underside shots. Where possible, I prefer not to pick them and use my Pentax point and shoot, pressed down into the substrate, but sometimes this is not possible.

Vatnajökull (meaning Glacier of Lakes), also known as the Vatna Glacier, is the largest and most voluminous (3,100 km³) ice cap in Iceland, and one of the largest in area in Europe.
It is located in the south-east of the island, covering more than 8 percent of the country.
The average thickness of the ice is 400 m with a maximum thickness of 1,000 m.
Under the ice cap there are several volcanoes.
Vatnajökull has around 30 outlet glaciers flowing from the ice cap and one of them is the Fjallsjökull, flowing into the Fjallsárlòn (glacial lake).

I have my camera back but the weather is too awful today to take new photos, so I post another one taken in October, on a lovely day when Fynn was taking a nap in teh sunshine. The bed is actually the roof of Cleo's summer villa on the porch.
Charlie and Leo have arrived this afternoon and will stay with us until Sunday evening. For today they will stay in Cleo's hibernation room in the basement. My sister, my nephew and I take turns entertaining them. Leo is confused as it's his first time away from home since he moved in with my niece and Charlie doesn't understand why he isn't allowed to explore the house again.

C-FHCM, a Boeing 737-8 MAX 8, on approach to runway 24R at Toronto Pearson International Airport at Mississauga, Ontario. It was arriving as WJA658 (WestJet Airlines Ltd.) from Calgary, Alberta.
Having not operated its fleet of MAX 8s since March 13, 2019, when Transport Canada grounded the type, WestJet placed them back into service on January 21, 2021.
Branches of Freesia, aah, I see them, I smell them... my resistance is low... I confess... LOL
Freesia is a genus of 14-16 species of flowering plants in the family Iridaceae, native to Africa. Of the 14 species, 12 are native to Cape Province, South Africa, the remaining two to tropical Africa, one species extending north of the equator to Sudan.
The genus was named in honour of Friedrich Heinrich Theodor Freese (1795-1876), German physician.
They are herbaceous plants which grow from a corm 1-2.5 cm diameter, which sends up a tuft of narrow leaves 10-30 cm long, and a sparsely branched stem 10-40 cm tall bearing a few leaves and a loose one-sided spike of fragrant narrowly funnel-shaped flowers.

A rare exotic moth flutters under the moon and steals through her lace curtains.. I couldn't even know if her curtains were lace but I imagine them so as she tells me her story.. I wish I could ask her.. his fluttering wings would stay there with her all night.
This is the magic and poetry of her, my dear friend April. The same gentle soul who taught me to crush delicate white egg shells from the kitchen and sprinkle them in the dark soil of my April in Paris roses. The bushes we got together and planted at the same time a thousand miles apart only a couple Springs ago now a bittersweet reminder of her grace and beautiful strength. Yesterday, we lost April and the world will never look the same without her sensibility and loving friendship that warmed me so..
My deepest sympathies to her friends here on Flickr that loved her and were there for her so fiercely and compassionately, you know who you are, you were a loving and driving force in April's life.
